Description

An intimate memoir from Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay, delving into everything from the origin story of the iconic show, to her struggles with fertility and pregnancy loss, and the behind-the-scenes moments that were left on the cutting room floor. Before eleven seasons of record-breaking TV, two Emmy nominations, and a chart-topping podcast, Scheananigans, Scheana thought that signing on to the Real Housewives' spin-off show, Vanderpump Rules, was a stepping stone to reaching her ultimate goal of becoming a successful actress in Hollywood. After appearing on shows like 90210, Jonas, and Victorious, Vanderpump Rules would be a piece of cake. But from the very first season, Vanderpump Rules pit Scheana against her fellow cast members. Barbs were thrown, friendships dissolved, and Scheana was left in the rubble trying to parse fact from fiction. On camera, she got used to being called every name in the book, from homewrecker to a pick-me and bad friend. But off camera, there's always been a different side of Scheana, pieces of her she couldn't share on screen or that were trimmed out of tidy forty-minute television episodes. In My Good Side, Scheana pulls back the layers of who she really is and shares all sides of her—the good, bad, and messy—bringing listeners on a wild nostalgia trip through the early days of Vanderpump Rules, while recounting jaw-dropping stories from her Hollywood black book, including setting the record straight on her relationship with Eddie Cibrian. She reveals how her outlook on love has evolved and led her to a daughter she was told she may never have. From being bullied as a kid to being bullied by the Witches of WeHo, Scheana has seen it all, and together she and her fans can laugh, cry, and reminisce on all the drama, heartbreak, and celebrations over the years. • A fun and inspirational read
Format: Audible Audiobook
This book is truly a great read. I wish those who dislike Scheana would give her a chance and actually read it. Every chapter was interesting to me and I appreciated the self-reflection, self-deprivation, and self-awareness presented. The chapter everyone is buzzing about is Ch 16 revealing her husband’s affair. It was well written and honest. It was hard to read but I appreciate her vulnerability in sharing. Give this book a chance, ya’ll! It’s a great read. ... show more

Format: Kindle
I started watch VPR when it first aired. I will be honest I had that perception of Scheana that everyone else did. Reading this was as if we were sitting outside, having a drink and her giving herside of the story vs. the media. It was an easy read if youve been a fan since day 1. It wasnt terrible, and it wasn't written the greatest, but I definitely have a new outlook on her! ... show more

  • Honest Review- Not a fan but somewhat enjoyed the book
Format: Hardcover
First I'll start with the positive- If you're a VPR fan and looking for a brainless, somewhat juicy read that's decent at keeping your interest, this does the job. I mostly enjoyed it knowing what to expect. I only skipped pages in the sections about her postpartum OCD because she made the topic unnecessarily long and dragged it out to the point to where it just got boring and repetitive. The negative- no surprise, Scheana's narcissism was on full display here. For example, there was absolutely no reason whatsoever to list the B-list celebs she's slept with- clearly, she's proud of it and wanted everyone to know. Also, she still doesn't see a problem with telling her ex-husband she wanted a divorce on national television, totally humiliating him and blind-siding him. No accountability, no remorse- just excuses. So, yeah, I'll be giving it to Good Will now that I've read it, but also don't regret buying it because I wanted a fast, brainless book to read in a couple of days. ... show more

  • A genuinely heartfelt and surprisingly open and honest story.
Format: Hardcover
I really liked Scheana's book. If people can put aside any biases about reality shows, I think they will enjoy this memoir. I like that Scheana is honest- she doesn't play the victim or the pathos card. She admits to her short-comings, weaknesses of ego and mistakes she made. She is not maudlin or self-aggrandizing. Nor did she bash anyone or reveal torid secrets. She was never cruel or glosting, nor was she fake-sweet and mayrtered. People were gossiping about how she trashed Lisa Vanderpump and others in her book. Simply not true. She shared very briefly how she perceived the issues and tensions with Lisa and others, explaining why she believed these friendshios faltered. These passages were low-key and no bashing whatsoever. I always liked Scheana- she was always genuinely sweet and caring, and willing to be open and vulnerable. The story is told in a very natural and pragmatic and down to earth manner. I know Scheana worked with a writer, but her voice comes through. What we see on TV regarding everyone on the show is a well- crafted mix of editing and curating and splicing together pieces of scenes in order to deliver a compelling story. Yes, pieces of these shows are "real" and if you are perceptive, you can see unguarded moments too. And being honest, if viewers watched an unedited show- it would be too much like home movies- and viewers would be bored to tears. Scheana also reveals her struggle with a tough life-long heslth issue. The book does a great job of documenting Scheana journey through life . Thr first part is about her childhood, which seemed very nice. (she is very close with her mom, who provided Scheana with a stable, loving home. And we learn about her father who hailed from Mexico and was barely in her life, and thst all played out. The book follows her path where she struggles to find her place in the entertainment world. She yearns for creative expression as well as acceptance and validation. Scheana is very honest about what drove her, as well as sharing mistakes she made along the way . She is just as open about her romantic history. Scheana was vulnerable and guileless; sometimes she was just looking for attention and affirmation, and at other times she longed for true love. We learn about her marriage to Shay- and she apologizes for the mistakes she made, and we learn about her deep, complicated friendship with Ariana, who she clearly loves and wants to protect- and goes into Mama Bear mode when the scandal hits the fan. We learn about her friendship with Tom Sandoval and Racquel, and how it all came apart. Sad and frankly cruddy consequences where Scheana got hurt in the crossfire. This is NOT a salacious, torrid Vanderpump Tell All . We learn some fascinating behind the scenes stuff- and understand how fierce and merciless the industry is. And see how all of the people in that show were often very likable- but also flawed and complex. The relationships could be sad and confusing- just like all relationships. Scheana had some awkward anc very vulnerable times- and the show seemed to be eager to reveal it all and edit to make sure that it all looked more dramatic and embarrassing than it was. She embarks on new career paths. Her dream of having a baby finally comes true, after marrying Brock, who seems like a good guy for her- but she experienced many heartbreaks along the way, including a hurtful rough patch with her husband. Her little girl, Summer Moon, changes her life for the better. I really liked her book. Yes, dhe is beautiful, but also lovely on the inside. Yes, she is flawed just as we all are. I hope she writes another book. ... show more

  • Oh Scheana!
Format: Hardcover
My previous review was flagged for no reason so here's the updated version. Scheana tells a lot of fibs in this book and it should've been labeled fiction. You won't get a ton more detail into her life aside from what we have already seen on VPR so for that reason I urge you to borrow this book from the library. ... show more

  • Very good read
Format: Kindle
I honestly did not know what to expect from this book. I saw great reviews for it online and thought it would be a good read while on vacation. I did not know much about Scheana prior to reading this book, but I am amazing at what she has overcome in her life. I am very happy I made this purchase to read this book. It gave a lot of behind the scenes information, but wasn't overly gossipy calling out every celebrity she's encountered or had a one night stand with, just the ones pertinent to her life. Well written and I was blown away about how her writer had betrayed her previously. Excellent read. ... show more

I like reading Scheana’s point of view. She is smart, savvy, and I hope she thrives. Brock will probably not last, sadly.

  • Makes her look very unintelligent!
Format: Hardcover
What an awful book!!! She writes about her hundred lovers.. nothing to brag about and it only makes her look desperate and a social climber. I had no idea that Scheanna was that desperate to become famous. I stopped reading after Chapter 6. Don’t waste your money!
