Jeep Wrangler hood latches are known as a weak spot from the factory. Replacing them with an aftermarket metal set of latches is one of my first things done when I get a new-to-me Wrangler. Like the functionality of these and they keep my hood from floating at highway speeds. Took a little bit of effort to install, but not bad.

This hood latch is very well made but is a tricky installation on a Jeep JK. The instructions that come with the kit are pretty basic and don’t describe what’s involved in working in the limited space of the Jeep. There is very little room to get to the nut that holds the base of the existing latch without taking parts off the Jeep. I used a 1/4” socket set with a swivel attachment. Anything larger would not fit in the narrow gap. I believe it’s 13mm for the existing nut and it’s 10mm for the one with the new latch. You just need to loosen the existing nut a little to be able to remove by hand. There’s also a risk of dropping the new parts into the body of the Jeep. To eliminate that, I put duct tape in the 10mm socket to hold in the new nut and a little piece to hold the washer. I also had to remove the latch mechanism from its base to make it easier to insert the new bolt into the hole and catch the nut. This worked well and took about 10 minutes a side including reconnecting the latch. The screws that hold the catch part of the system that attaches to the hood are long enough to catch the threads but I added a dab of blue thread lock to make sure the screws don’t rattle loose. Adjusting the latch to grab the hood tightly is easy enough. Once adjusted properly it’s very easy to latch and unlatch. I also like the added feature of the locking pin. In high winds the hood would often flex with the old rubber latch. These new latches hold tightly and there is no flex. These latches look solid and are solid. I would recommend these latches.

The media could not be loaded. These are just what I was after. I used these to replace some older locking hood latches I previously installed. I got tired of having to use a key to unlock the latches, but still wanted a latch that would adjust to eliminate hood flutter. These are high quality, look great and perform well. The install was more time consuming than I anticipated, but that is because of the small area to work with. No fault of the product itself. Adjustment for each side was easy and installation was self explanatory. 5 out of 5 I would recommend!

These are an improvement over the stock 2014 hood latches, but they are a little difficult to install and align, and one of the wires that retains the pin broke rather quickly. I was afraid the clip may slide out even though they have retainer bearings in them, they are not tight enough to give me piece of mind without the retainer strap, so I cut the wire straps out and replaced with paracord, which works great. The clasps themselves work great after much fussing to adjust them just right. Amazon is asking me about "Lockability", these do not lock. They are made from aluminium, so I don't expect rust. They serve the purpose. hood is tight. no more buffeting in high winds with worn out rubber straps.
