Description

I was ten years old and new to the area when a neighbor boy asked if I had been to the motorcycle range. I hadn't. So off we went on our bicycles, from asphalt to a dirt road and into a canyon. And there it was. The motorcycle range. Men were riding up and down various trails on a large hill. This whole scene that I was taking in changed my life forever. All I could think about after that was motorcycles, and what it would be like to ride up that hill. I can honestly say on that overcast morning in the South Bay of San Diego when I was introduced to the motorcycle range is the day the love affair began. - Steve KuklaTake a trip back in time as you enjoy photos of vintage motorcycles that look like they just rolled off the showroom floor. From the 1967 Yamaha YL1E100 Twin Jet to the purpose-built flat track racer powered by a modern Honda CRF450R engine, you’ll discover a motorcycle you most likely remember, owned or wished you owned. This beautiful 150-page book filled with full color and full page photos of vintage dirt bikes, with a few street models thrown in the mix, is sure to be a hit with any motorcycle enthusiast. It took me back to my youth growing up in Chula Vista and also the stories my dad would tell me about him and Steve and the other young men riding motorcycles and having wide open canyons to ride in. Great book and even better the Powell mini bike in that book was my actual first two wheel bike I ever owned and learned to ride. How many people can say they know were there first bike is? Great book! - Douglas Pope I was lucky enough to get to see and read an advance copy of this. You won’t be disappointed, some of the coolest motorcycle builds, every one of these has a great story behind them, each one has a different and unique style, and you can see the love and appreciation in every single one of these beautiful bikes! A must read for anyone who has a love for motorcycles! Thanks so much S&S Off-Road Magazine for a wonderful book!! - Keith Nishiyama Read more

  • THE IMORTANT THINGS THAT GIVE YOU FOCUS AND JOY
I was very fortunate to not only grow up in the South Bay area of San Diego/Chula Vista but also got introduced to riding motorcycles in all the areas the author Steve Kukla talks about but have ridden a few times with him back in the late 70s and early 80s and can always remember the great people I met and became friends with because of areas like that. I even took both my boys and wife there to ride as well. 44 years later my wife and I still talk about not just those special early days together but the special days today with our boys, their families and granddaughters. The pictures and written words and stories are great reading and not to mention the fantastic restoration they have done with these true treasures. This will make not only a great Xmas gift for the old but for the young who want to live in a time when we did. Once again the author has published another outstanding book with a positive message attached to it that revolves around love of life and family. Thanks again Steve and Sheri. • A Wonderful Read
I truly enjoyed my time spent reading this book. If you were introduced to motorcycling in the late 1960's as I was, it is a trip down memory lane. The book is filled with wonderful photos and supporting text. Most of the stories are humorous, a few are sad, but all are written in a concise and enjoyable manner. An added bonus for me is that I grew up in the same town as the author, so I could relate to all of the places mentioned. But I feel that anyone who rode motorcycles during that era will really enjoy the book. Two thumbs up to a book well-written. Brian Miller ... show more
