  • Pretty good
Style: Marine System
Recently installed on Yamaha 150 Skeeter and it's an improvement over cable steering but I was expecting to be able to turn the will with little effort. It's still a little tight on the left hand turn for some reason. Have bled the system thoroughly. The place where the brackets bolt onto the cylinder rod are waaaay too short in my opinion. Maybe 1/2" length of threading to crank down locknut. Mine actually came off first trip out and luckily I didn't lose it. But if this could certainly put you in a bind if steering brackets come loose. Why not design with1" thread length at least??? Baffles me. I ordered narrow jam and lock nut to replace existing lock nut, and used thread lock for extra hold (see photo). Overall pretty happy but would get the next size up if had to do it over. ... show more

  • Great unit for the monney and miserable customer service!
Style: Marine System
Prior to the installation the 1st thing that I noticed, I had ordered the 150hp unit and it came with a 150hp hydraulic cylinder and a 300hp steering head pump. I contacted VEVOR's customer service and I was greeted from someone from "Shopify" and I inquired about the mismatch in the hp ratings and the person was not able to help me and said that they would contact VEVOR and they will get back to me. After a week of waiting, I never received a call back from anyone and I was concerned about the mismatch in hp ratings so I sent it back for a replacement. I received the replacement in about 2 weeks and again, the package included a 150hp hydraulic cylinder and a 300hp steering head pump. Once again I contacted VEVOR customer service and again I was greeted by someone from Shopify and again I was told I would be contacted by someone which again never happen. When you review the Technical Information page, there were some differences between the 150hp steering head and the 300hp steering head which enforced my concerns however the differences were minor and I thought I would give it a try. Installation: The actual product installation went as well as I had expected. It actually took me a day and a half to do the complete installation but that was mostly due to my boat configuration. I had to remove the right side panels and had to remove the rear floor panel just to remove the original rack and pinion steering mechanism. The actual time that it took me to install the hydraulic cylinder to the motor, install the steering head pump, install the hydraulic hoses and bleed the system took about 3-1/2 hours. Post Installation: What a wonderful difference this unit makes when steering the boat! No more white-knuckling the steering wheel due to motor toque or hanging on the steering wheel for dear life at top speeds! The only downside of this unit; It tends to steer harder to the left than the right. I'm contributing that to the engine torque which was always there prior to the installation and significantly worse than it is now. Overall, It is a fair product for the price (4 Stars), It takes some know-how to install it (4 Stars), Vevor Customer Service (No Stars) ... show more

Massive improvement over the rack n pinion steering this replaced. I too managed to hook up backwards but easily corrected.

  • Instructions are complete garbage
Style: Marine System
Successful install. The instructions? Put them in your bathroom and use them as toilet paper. More value for your money that way. Luckily all the pieces and parts are fairly self explanatory to assemble. Overall fairly simple to put together, watched a few YouTube videos of some different brands, all same concept. Testing in garage went well, everything works like it should. It was installed on a 1994 Sylvan with a 125 HP motor. ... show more

  • Great replacement for cables
Style: Marine System
Replaced a dual cable system on a 150hp Mercury and couldn’t be happier. Very smooth and easy turning, and installation was fairly simple. I do recommend a second person when filling and bleeding the system so you aren’t walking back and forth constantly. Wish I would have done this years ago.

  • Don’t use the bleeding set-up.
Style: Marine System
Great product. For a reverse engineered Chinese product, it’s surprisingly high quality. The hoses were easy to feed through. The pump, template and set up was well thought out and the actuator installation was straight forward. The downside was when you had to add fluid and bleed the system. The little kit you get, will leak everywhere. I watched a ‘Dangar Marine’ YouTube video on his similar installation and he found that cutting the bottom off the power steering bottle and using it upside down as a funnel, disconnecting the steering actuator from the outboard and bleeding it by just turning the steering wheel until it’s bled… is a half great idea. The issue is, the tube and brass pump connector doesn’t feed enough fluid into the pump to avoid pushing air into the lines (1st picture) while you turn the steering wheel. Plus it pisses fluid everywhere. Put an old towel down under the pump. Trust me! I found that screwing the conical cap (2nd picture) directly onto the steering fluid bottle, putting the tip into the reservoir hole and squeezing the bottle just enough to avoid spillover, while you slowly turn the steering wheel (with the actuator bleed nipple open) in its respective direction, is much more effective. Honestly, it’ll leak everywhere too, but at least it’ll bleed quickly and won’t be pushing air into the hoses. Good luck. ... show more
