Fit perfect and make the job much easier than using the old item. Do yourself a favor and save a lot of time by using a new sleeve versus cleaning and fighting the old one. This made adjustment practically a by hand process.

  • Bad Bolts - Safety Issue!
I called Moog before I installed this adjuster sleeve, to verify the bolt torque. They said it is 41 ft-lbs, which is what my Ford Service Manual states, as well. I also asked what the yield strength of the bolts were and they looked up the M10x1.5 class 10.9 bolt used on this adjuster sleeve and said 47 ft-lbs. So it should handle 41 ft-lbs of torque no problem.....WRONG! As I torqued the bolt, it started to stretch at 35 ft lbs. Yes, some bolts are designed to stretch on installation in order to maintain tension against the nut and keep it from loosening. But, there is a difference between that type of stretching and the kind where the bolt acts like a rubber band and just keeps stretching and stretching, which makes achieving consistent torque values near impossible - and more importantly puts the bolt very near the breaking point. In any case, I backed off and torqued it to 30 ft-lbs, instead. Then I took it to the alignment shop and asked them to Please torque this adjuster to only 30 ft lbs. When I drove home the steering wheel was slightly off, so I adjusted it when I got home. Before I loosened the adjuster sleeve bolts, I checked the torque that the alignment shop had done, it was 40 ft-lbs (they must have decided to ignore my request for 30 ft lbs and decided to follow the manufacturers spec of 41 ft lbs (40 is close - torque wrench discrepancy). I am sure they did this because of liability reasons). So as I loosened the bolt, the threads disintegrated, rendering the bolt useless. Clearly, these bolts are NOT class 10.9, even though they are stamped 10.9! I looked on the ES3426S box and noticed that it is made in China. Clearly Moog's Chinese manufacturer has substituted inferior materials, or heat treating practices, when making these bolts, because a true M10x1.5 class 10.9 bolt should withstand a torque of 75 NM (55 ft-lbs), and these bolts can't handle anything over 30 ft-lbs. Moog needs to address this issue, immediately - it is a major safety issue that is putting anyone who has installed this adjuster sleeves at great (life threating) risk! Either make real M10x1.5 Class 10.9 bolts, or upsize the bolts on this sleeve, so they can handle the manufacturers torque spec of 41 ft-lbs (the adjuster sleeve clamps bolt holes are large enough to take larger bolts, so upsizing bolts is an easy fix). End of the day Moog is responsible for all their products, no matter where they are manufactured, and they need to address and remedy this safety issue, now. It is irresponsible to know there is an issue and do nothing to fix it. (Ensure true M10.9 bolts; upsize to larger bolts; have the product manufactured somewhere else (where they will really follow the specs and proper manufacturing practices), greatly improve Quality Control (more random sampling and testing); Moog has a lot of options to remedy this - to do nothing is criminal. ... show more

  • Cheap Fasteners
I have always believed in MOOG parts. I was very disappointed in the fasteners. The nuts bound on the bolts and striped the threads ending with a frozen bolt/nut. I had to cut them off. I purchased some new grade 8 nuts and bolts and it was much better. The sleeve and brackets were the quality I was expecting. ... show more
