The tongue of the shoe is completely separate from the sides so when you try to tie it it doesn't keep the tongue in place.

I love these shoes so much that I bought three pair trying to get the perfect fit for my son. I would suggest to buy one or two sizes up from what your child wears. My son has thick wide feet shaped similar to Boston Market corn bread lol, therefore I had a hard time fitting his feet in...I even had to take out the insoles. What I don't like about the shoes is that they do not have a hard bottom so once your child walks on them we're pretty much dirty I would suggest the soft bottom for kids that are not yet walking. But they're just too cute and the price is perfectq
