I'll be honest, when I originally ordered these I thought the main body of the vices were going to be a hard plastic or polymer or something. Nope, the actual jaws of the vices are metal. The vices stay steady due to the suction cups at the bottom of the vices. These vices are perfect for small things that you need to stay steady. The suction cups work very well. Tried to get the suction cup to stick to several surfaces including a large silicone work mat(which you’d think anything would stick to suction wise) and couldn’t get the base to stick. The jaws are also pretty useless. The threaded rod is just loose in the fixed jaw so it slops around a lot. There’s a snap ring to keep it from pulling through but it doesn’t really “secure” it. The “Rubber Spikes to Protect Jewelry” are actually hard plastic. This might be an ok set for your kids if they’re getting into hobby jewelry making but they’re pretty worthless for any sort of serious work. ... show more

A bit cheap/flimsy but they'll work. I found the tolerances to be quite loose - resulting in an overall sloppy feel. However, it does function. The 'pads' that hold your piece in place are hard plastic - not silicone or rubber. I think a denser silicone or rubber piece would have been a better choice to better cradle your work and protect it but as long as you're gentle with the tension the hard plastic should not damage anything you're working with. Obviously, these are quite cheap. And that's good. But you're getting quality to match. ... show more

Surprising quality to this. The devices themselves are metal, not cheap plastic, so they can be used for a variety of tasks, not just delicate jewelry. Adjusts easily, stays adjusted while working. Note that you will need a non-porous surface to mount these to. They won't work on plywood, for example. The smoother the surface, the better. But they are handy little vices and seem well made.
