We have the 15-inch "Mikasa Blue and White Landscape Round Ceramic Ginger Jar," which is the larger of two available sizes. When I removed the ginger jar from its packaging, my wife's first words were *not* the expected, "Oh, how lovely" or "Isn't that nice." Rather, her first words were, "It's large." At that point, I immediately knew we might disagree on where to place it or how to use it. Personally, I like the blue and white "landscape" design, and so does my wife. Our disagreement is exclusively over its size -- in our home. I think it would make a great cookie jar and brighten up our kitchen. The one problem here is that jars with narrow openings make it difficult for adults to remove cookies with their hands. And this ginger jar, as you can see from the photos, has a small top. In fact, the classic ginger jar design makes it almost top-heavy. This means it shouldn't be placed in a location where smaller children might express their natural curiousity, particularly if they try to put their smaller hands in a tall, almost top-heavy jar that contains tempting sweets. So, if you have a good location for the Mikasa ginger jar, this is a large one with lots to like. The landscape design is different with artistic appeal; it won't go unnoticed wherever it's used. Further, I think the price is fair and in a range that makes the Mikasa ginger jar a nice gift for friends or family. ... show more

For a name brand, I expected more quality control. There are numerous defects on the piece I received, including multiple areas of smudged paint, and an uncoated area of the jar. It looks like a scratch that happened sometime in the finishing stage. The lid has no seal properties, so this is solely decorative. I had planned to use it for florals but as a centerpiece, might need to rethink it because the 360 view on the table is not ideal given the fairly noticeable defects.
