    • Great addition to my truck cap!
Instead of using these for the truck bed itself, I put them on the ceiling of my truck cap. These produce very bright light and I'm very happy with them. Installation: The kit includes everything you need up to your 12V supply and maybe a little cable management. To install on the cap, which I also needed to add power for my 3rd brake light and keep it easy to remove the cap from the truck, I bought some waterproof 3 wire/pin connectors. The lights all share a ground and power for the brake light and these lights are separate. Physical: Mounting the lights was easy and very secure with the adhesive backing. After installing these, the temps in the cap reached well over 100 degrees F for consecutive days and they have stayed stuck. My installation left me with lots of extra cabling for each of the light strips which I just taped up to the ceiling using some gorilla tape. Electrical: The hardest part of this install was finding the appropriate wires under the bed of the truck to connect to. RAM provides a brake light wire blunt ended to connect to and immediately be active, and they also include 12v steady or ignition based blunt end wires under there, but require an upfitter harness to activate them. Once that was all squared away I mounted the lights up and ran the wiring down through the side of the bed and soldered everything together. Would be easier with the low-temp solder heat shrink and just be able to use a lighter to make a good watertight connection. If you have easy access to the 12V supply and the right tools this is not bad at all. Conclusion: Absolutely worth the effort to install. So much more light in the bed which is especially helpful when the bed is full of random stuff and you need to find something in the dark. The built in lights at the rear of the bed just aren't enough, and when the cap is on the light on the back of the cab doesn't do anything. Also, those lights are just temporary and these can be switched on for extended use. (Photos coming) ... show more

I purchased this set for my 2013 Ram 1500 Crew Cab with the short bed. I have a BakFlip G2 installed on the bed and these fit perfectly on the rails to the cover. I was able to feed the wires through factory holes to make all of the connections under the rear of the truck. I installed the switch (you will need two sided tape) right next to the lower tie down hook at the back of the bed. This allowed me to fish the entire wiring harness, including the fuse holder, through a factory hole to get it under the truck. I wanted a clean install so I removed the spare tire. This gave me access to existing wiring that was attached to the frame. I purchase a 10ft roll of 3/8 wire loom from Home Depot for less than $3. This allowed me to put all of the wiring inside the loom (minus the connectors) and wire tie everything to the existing factory wires. To power the lights I removed the 7 Pin trailer connector from behind the bumper. For my particular truck, the red wire provides 12 volts and the black is the ground (yours may be different). I carefully removed about 6" of the existing black tape and then stripped away a 1/4" of the insulation on each wire, approximately 4 " away from the 7 pin connector. This allowed me to wrap the wire and solder it. I then used liquid electrical tape over the connection and re-wrap black electrical tape around everything. One thing you will have to do is add about 5 feet of wire to both the power and the ground of harness that comes with the lights. This, and needing two sided tape for the switch, would be my only negatives about this lighting kit. I would gladly have paid the extra few dollars for it instead of having to purchase the 18ga wire and taking the time to install it. After all connections were made I put the rest of the wire loom around all of the wires and secured it all to existing wiring on the chassis. Its all above the spare tire and has a factory clean look. Even after the $20 I spent for extra wire, wire loom, and brush on electrical tape, I only have $50 in the entire setup.     • Great lights, bright.
I like the lights, way to install, very bright. My only concern was the lack of wiring details in the instructions. I had to go to YouTube to see how to handle. I installed them in my enclosed trailer for my band equipment. I had a light on the wall that I removed and used those wires to connect the lights. Overall, I would recommend getting these lights. I may purchase another set for my truck bed now. ... show more
