I have had these Merrill MOAB 3 boots for two weeks, and after putting several miles on them I must say that they are about the most comfortable boots for walking, both on pavement and in the woods, I have ever owned. They are light, soft stepping, stable and supportive, and are claimed to be waterproof (though I have not yet tested them for that). I purchased them for outdoor activities that involve lots of walking and standing, occasionally on wet and soggy ground, and I am confident they will serve well in that use. That said, I do have two observations: This is actually my second pair as the first pair I received were far too large. I have several pair of perfectly fitting Merrell walking shoes in size 9W, so that is what I ordered with these Merrell boots. They turned out to be far too large, with more than an inch of extra room in the toe, and too much room on the sides. The good news is that Amazon makes the exchange easy, and three days later I received a pair in size 8 ½ W. These are also just a little too large, and an 8 Wide or Regular would probably be better, but I’m trying to make do with thicker socks. Still this variance in sizing from the same manufacturer was surprising. The product information seems to infer that, with a side zipper, they can be put on and removed without having to deal with the laces. I found this to not be the case. They can be removed by opening the zipper, but if they’re laced tight enough to fit properly, there is no way I can get my feet into them with the zipper open. What I found is that if I leave the zipper open, tighten the laces as with any other boots, and then pull up the zipper, I get a good, snug and supportive fit around the ankle. ... show more

Comfort is great, style is great, convenience of the zipper is good but could loosen a bit more to make easier to get on for narrow footed people. Despite the struggle to get on without unlacing I would consider purchasing when I wear these out. I previously purchased 511 boots which were a bit too wide in the toe but had a much better zipper ... show more

I had bought these for work. When I received them I tried them on and they felt super comfortable. But when I laced up the second (left) boot I noticed it was deformed. Then when I attempted to lace them up the top lace hole popped off the boot. I then was going to have a second pair sent to me. When the second pair arrived the boots were symmetrical and there were no deformities till I attempted to lace up the left boot again. Yet again the lace hole popped off the boot. As always Merrell boots feel fantastic and are extremly comfortable but...These boots are only waterproof in less than 2 inches of water so don't buy if you're only concerned about being waterproof but buy if you want the comfort...as long as it ain't raining with puddles deeper then 2 inches, you'll be dry...They're comfy so I'll be keeping 'em...I'll just have to pay better attention to the "reviews" before buying my next pair... ... show more

I'm a big fan of the FDE, Coyote Brown, and Tan military boot. I had the most comfortable pair back in the day but they no longer make it. So my search continued and I found these Merrells. Waterproof, easy to lace, great grippy soles, and a fast action side zipper for quick on/off. So far rugged and durable from what I've used it for. Will continue to wear them and will update if they somehow unexpectedly fail. Reason it fell 1 star short for me is that the inner sole wasn't as soft or comfortable as other boots I've worn. But still a great boot overall. ... show more

Firstly, I bought a used pair, they arrived in perfect order except for one missing eyelet which I received a refund for. Besides that, they seemed to be never worn. In my few weeks of use I noticed a few quality control issues. The leatherwork around the zippers is uneven (pictures 3 &4), which does not effect functionality but could be emblematic of further qc issues. The glue adhesion on the sole of the right boot has also come loose, but that is an easy fix. For the price I would generally not expect these problems. Fit and comfort are great, I work 8-12 hours a day, mostly standing and walking and these have been great. The waterproofing is adequate as of yet, holding up to light Oregon rain. I wear them commuting on my motorcycle, which I can attest is a good measure of durability. The zipper is clean and does not stick, the laces are adequate. Overall they are comfortable, but the few issues in the early weeks of my ownership was unexpected. I've owned merrils in the past, and they have a good reputation for a reason. ... show more

Because of the work I do, boots such as these are required. I have worn these Moabs daily since they arrived at my home. I have to say is that I am very pleased with them. I have never had a pair of boots with the zippers but this is one of my favorite features. The comfort is off the charts.
