    • Engaging activity for preschoolers
I got this for my 4 1/2 year old, who loves cutting. It is one fine-motor activity that keeps him occupied, so I have been purchasing any cutting book I can find. He's done several Kumon cutting books and a couple of others that I've found here and there. This one doesn't have any written guidance and doesn't seem to be intended to "teach" someone to cut, or build cutting skills in a very controlled way like the Kumon. But it does start out easy (straight lines) and progress to more complex cutting skills (like curves and spirals). While this is book isn't too much of a challenge for experienced cutters, you can expand on each page to make it into more of an activity. For example, there is a page with a house and separate windows, chimney, etc. which you can glue down and be creative with. Another page can be used like a puzzle once cut out, and another page can be turned into a memory-type game. We didn't use the scissors it came since they are only plastic (no blade) and his other scissors cut more nicely. Also, there isn't an oval shaped hole to put more than one finger in, so it was uncomfortable for him to use. But I'm glad to have an all-plastic pair for when my 2 year old starts learning to cut. I am pleased with my purchase - it has provided an engaging activity for my son, and he just looked through some of the ones we haven't completed yet, and said "This book is great!" ... show more

We homeschool and my young kids have a lot of free time for crafts. I pull this scissors skills book out every few months and it’s always a hit (I have purchased this item several times). The quality and convenience is worth the cost because I can’t easily find free prints online that measure up to these colorful pages. My kids at age 3 and 6 will easily spend 30+ minutes *on their own* cutting and gluing a few pages from this book. Educationally, they’re great for vocabulary, coordination, responsible scissor usage, practice with glue, and just a great activity all around. The orange scissors do actually work well for plastic scissors. Once my kids are a little older though I give them real kid-sized scissors and we ditch the plastic ones. My kids love these little scissor skill books. They made more in the past and I wish they would come back with them. They are so great for fine motor practice and the pictures are fun and colorful. My kids will either glue them back together on construction paper or make something out of the pictures. Very cute and the scissor are wildly wonderful for a beginning cutter... This adorable and super fun activity book with the child safety scissors really improved my daughter’s confidence with scissors overall. It also helped her to gain more control over her cuts by improving her hand/eye coordination which I love. The pages are brightly colored and the activities kept her interested and engaged and the cutout activities became more challenging so it never became too easy or made her feel bored. This activity book had her practicing cutting along directional lines and it has increased her awareness of staying inside the lines when she is coloring in coloring books too which is another plus.
