We have all purchased many Melissa and Doug products. I was incredibly disappointed when I turned over one of the bills to find that the bills say, IN TOYS WE TRUST. My guess is that this company is worried about offending someone, yet in God We Trust is history and the truth of what our American currency states. I had to teach my 3 grandchildren today that the Melissa and Doug bills are incorrect and how sad this was. My very sweet clever grandson said, lets cross that off what they wrote and write what the bills should say! I also felt, the bills were very plain and too simple. Not sure why it was necessary to add so many 50 cent pieces to the kit either. Finally doing Amazon reviews after 10 years of having an account. This is my longest review. It probably hit the heart as well too. A lot of product for the money but for someone like me with this concern, not for you. ... show more

    • Melissa & Doug! Take Notice! Please!
As always, Melissa & Doug deliver a great product! And as always, Melissa & Doug need to figure out a way to slide some type of cover on their very nice boxes, so that kids can keep their stuff in the very nice box! Why they don't see this problem is beyond me. I mean, just stuff the money in a Ziplock bag & send it to me because that's where it will have to be stored anyway after it's opened! And sadly, the nice box will just get thrown away bc what can you really do with it without a cover!? The same problem goes for many of their items. The magnetic dolls & clothes are just 1 that comes to mind. ... show more

The dollars were about the same size as real money. And had good presentation. But the wooden box was pretty useless. It was big and bulky and the money didn’t fill each slot to the top if you take out the cardboard fillers under the money. So it was hard to get out. I laminated the money and my daughter uses it in her purse. Otherwise I think it would have been ruined by now. I honestly would have been happier if I bought cheap money at the dollar store. ... show more

My kids asked for play money from Santa and after reading a lot of reviews, this one seemed like the most complete set. It has 50 bills in each quantity and tons of coins. Some people at first glance think they are real bills and coins, although they are obviously fake when you take a closer look. The only negatives of this set are that the bills fit sooooo perfectly in the wooden case that they are hard to get out. I left the cardboard inserts in the bottom of each case which helps a lot, but my kids keep wanting to take those out. The holes on the side of each box could have easily been made a bit deeper so this wouldn't be an issue. The second probably is there is no lid. Over time this is going to get dusty or money is going to easily fall out. It seems like a lot of toys come in wooden boxes with no lid. If those two things were improved this would be 5 stars for sure. ... show more

I like how realistic the money looks and how many pieces are included but I wish there was a way to close the box. I bought this as part of my play therapy toy selection but had to come up with some way to store the money since the box has no lid. The only way to store it in the box is lying flat somewhere. We originally got this set to use for schooling to learn money and practice money math. The kids love it so much, and how realistic it is, they wanted another set for imaginary play. We keep them separate so that we don't have to deal with money missing we need for school, or bills getting ripped when we still need them for math. There are cardboard risers in each slot for the bills, so there aren't as many bills as it looks like in the picture. It would be easy to combine the bills from two sets. The coins take up the full space in their slots though. The bills are quite durable and we haven't had any rips or tears. We've had the school set almost 4 years with no damage. I thought being a higher end product the money would be a thicker quality to provide a longer lasting product but it’s regular paper money so I laminated it. The box is a nice wood that is very smooth and safe for children but there Is no lid so storage is difficult and I store the money in a plastic container. My problem is since I laminated the money and store it in another container I should have purchased a cheaper money set. ... show more

    • the biggest size of the coin is too big for our piggy bank but otherwise good
I bought these for my kids' piggy banks. I am a credit card person and do not have many coins hanging around. So instead of real coins I give them these coins as a reward or something and they put these into their piggy banks. Then when we open the bank, I purchase them with their actual values so that it is a convenient replacement of real coins. They are not heavy or dirty as the real ones which are also pluses. The only problem is that the biggest coin does not fit into the piggy bank's top hole. But it may possibly be due proper representation of the actual thing so I can not blame the company for that.
