The State Hermitage Publishing House has brought out the album Masterpieces of European Furniture of the 15th to Early 20th Centuries, devoted to the museum s collection of Western European furniture. The works of European furniture- makers are being published in such a quantity for the first time. One hundred items have been selected, beginning with early examples from the 15th century. The Renaissance era is illustrated by a collection of Italian cassoni. Pieces from the 17th and 18th centuries make it possible to show the role played by furniture-making in France, the country that set the fashion in the artistic crafts.
