What is the purpose of a safe if not to secure valuable property? This so-called safe is so flimsy, it can be torn open with bare hands. The locking mechanism is decent, and the metal is of decent thickness. Unfortunately, the whole thing is held together with a single, narrow hinge, making it terribly easy to pry the lid off the base. Using just my thumb and index finger, and not trying terribly hard, I was able to open the corners of the safe enough to shake a standard US passport right out without opening the safe. I suppose a watch a solidly wrapped wad of $100 bills wouldn't be able to slip out through the same opening, but a gold coin or a wedding band certainly would. And I'm pretty sure if I took a screwdriver to the opening and pried, the lid would pop right off. You're probably better off leaving a passport under a mattress where nobody would think to look, instead of in this big box that may as well have the words "STEAL ME" branded on it. ... show more

I’m very disappointed. I thought being a Masterlock brand it would be made better. The locking mechanism sticks and I feel like I will break the cheap plastic knob when I turn it.
