  • Good book on android devices
This book will not only show you how to use an android device it will also show you how to be safer while using said device. The internet, while such a useful tool, can be unsafe if you don't have safeguards in place. Plus this book will show you how to back up your device. Don't lose your pictures because you had to factory reset a phone or get a new phone because yours broke. ... show more

  • Very poor book that doesn't deliver what its title says
I'm a network engineer with a project management background. As an experienced Windows, iOS, Android and Chrome OS user for many years, I'm alway looking for books that I could refer to novices besides Gookin's. This is NOT one. It passes the cursory Amazon check because its table of content is well organized, the author's bio suggest he might knows something about what he's writing about, and wants to write about it. That's all the positives. The negatives permeate the book. It's very badly written in every respect. . I don't believe that any of the positive reviews were from literate English-speaking people who actually read the book. The title is misleading hype. There are no secrets in Android, just basic functions you may not have figured out. Your devices don't need to be unlocked; you do. You won't learn from this book how to manage content or time, to improve productivity or security, just that you should. You won't learn to organize, file or back up your data files, music and photos, how to schedule unproductive interruptions in your workflow, just that there are tools to help you. There's no direcion how to do that. That is not management. The many incorrect words used erratically in the book are all homonyms of English words pronounced with an accent, like what you'd get with the recent Google voice-to text feature. That they weren't caught before publication points this being self-published. without an independent reading. If that's not the case I'd never buy another book from this publisher. There's no evidence of proofreading or critical editing. The descriptions have rambling opinions that don't contribute to the purpose (the title) of the book. The net language effect is similar to what I've hear from Indian "engineers" - college graduates who never practiced engineering. The book doesn't demonstrate that the author understands that management, like engineering, is utilizing resources to produce something to specifications. I'll assume that the author does know how to do what the title states. This book will not help anyone else to learn that. ... show more

  • Good tips for using an Android OS on your phone
This has a lot of nice step by step instructions on things you can do with an Android phone. I especially am glad to see the section about Google voice prompts and also how to set up a smart watch to work with your phone. There are a lot of good tips and advice in this book, and it is well written for the lay person to understand. ... show more

  • No graphics. No screenshots. No index. Poor editing.
This book made me really miss bookstores. The 5 star reviews were suspect since the book is independently published, but without being able to easily compare Android books, I had to rely on limited online info. I wanted a book that introduced me to features I hadn't used on my current Android phone, and this book does, but in a very limited way. Without having physical access to other Android books in a bookstore or library, I don't know if there better books. Buying a different phone may be better than wasting time with books I can't see. ... show more

  • Expect to be confused
Very poorly written! Reads as if badly translated without any editor. For example, on page 25: “Likewise, when you genuinely extend the Fast Settings board, it will appear to get jam-pressed brimming with a few fastens that can be appropriately tapped by crossing over or through a couple of pages. Simply swipe left or option to explore these pages.” ... show more

I read a lot of books and this is absolutely the poorest written POS I've ever been exposed to. It's in the trash, where it belongs!
