    • Good Voice Phone Connection Over Your Internet (VOIP)
VOIP means Voice Over Internet Protocol, by the way. It is the substitute for a phone line connected to your house. This uses your internet connection - whatever yours is - plug this into your router, a switch on your router, etc., and plug it into an AC power outlet . Then just plug any "landline phone" into this, and voila! You have a working phone. Cheap phones can be found for $10 at stores, and probably on Amazon, or get fancy. This device has a standard phone jack, an Ethernet jack for your internet, and an AC power cord. You can even use your inside wiring as long as you disconnect those wires from the phone company, usually outside your house or office. I put a note in the box saying DO NOT RE-CONNECT in my box. NOTE that if you don't have a battery backup device or generator, if the power goes off, you have no phone, unless you have a working cell phone. I "ported" in my original phone number, fairly easily. I haven't used many of the features, and some tech knowledge would be helpful installing this, but one great feature it has is that it can screen incoming calls (must be turned on if you want it) by it saying a 1 digit number that the caller then has to key in to even make your phone ring. Have not used that yet, but sounds great, but it does mean that they can't even leave a message on your answering machine, if they don't hear and press the single digit. When you buy the unit, you get a year of calls, but will need to renew when that expires. Maybe about the same price you paid, again. Oh, by the way, I have a temp alert box in my house, and other units I tried, would not pass touch tones into the house to control that, nor answering machines, but this gadget does?     • Fired Ma Bell, went with MagicJack!
Wanted to keep a landline and my longtime number. Monthly phone bills were getting ridiculous for a phone not often used and I didn't have Caller ID or long distance service either. I like to use the landline for doctors, businesses etc. and let the answering machine handle it. I only give out my cell number to family and friends. That way, not bothered with other calls when out and about. Anyway, I found it easy to set up and it worked right away. If you want to keep your old number, you must first pay for service, are given a temp number, and then you pay another 20 bucks to port YOUR number. The porting took 2, maybe 3 days but no issues at all. I didn't even have to call ATT to cancel, it was taken care of by MagicJack. A minor issue is separate billing for 911 service. I used the same credit card to pay for a year's 911 service. My cost? 30 cents. I guess each year I'll get a bill for it. Seems kinda silly but that's the only way they'll do it. From $64 a MONTH (including all fees and taxes) to about $35 a YEAR? Yeah, I'll take that! I added 3 years of service so I won't pay MagicJack again til August of 2027. Very pleased so far! We purchased the magic jack because we wanted to “cut the cord “with cable. Having Internet service only to the house, saves a ton of money and magic. Jack works very well for all types of calls. And you can’t beat the price

    • Clear voice and work
Just switched from ooma to MJ. Very clear sound quality especially use with DECT 6.0 ATT phone. No echo or delay. Very happy with service. Must use USB 3.0 or 2A power adapter to work otherwise you'll get no dial tone or very low volume. When connected to PC, use the computer sound setting to increase the volume on the phone. Call log only list phone number w/o caller name. Timestamp is permanently set to ET. Call Blocker is max to only 99 number. Wish MJ have additional optional features for extra fee, i.e instant 2nd line, ability to block name, Increase blocking limit, simultaneous ring with multiple phone, setting local time zone, Caller number with name ... show more

    • Save Aggravation and Use a 2 amp USB Adapter
This is a great replacement for a land line phone for those boomers who insist on keeping theirs. $50. to purchase, then $40/yr is a great deal and you can keep your number for the porting fee of $20 +Tax. Do yourself a favor though, don't use the 1 amp charger that comes with it. Replace it with a 2 amp. I do cord-cutting professionally and this is my go to land line device. I've run into more MagicJack problems due to the lack of power. Customers report chattering noise, people on the other end can't hear, etc. MagicJack has a support site with solutions and phone support but, as I discovered via YouTube, the real issue is that they are under powered. ... show more

probably the last company on earth that will not mine a payment method for its "free" services. The 12 months actually are free Wow!. Sounds great. Simple set up. I dont have the "underpowered" issue I suppose because i opted to use the USB port on a power bar for its source. Didnt even try the provided dongle so cant speak to that, but if you need a simple landline, and dont want to get raped by MaBell this is what you have been looking for. ... show more

I really didn't want to lose my land line number after 30+ years, and although I have unlimited cell calls, I still prefer the landline to the cell. This was the perfect solution. I ported my landline # (there was a 19.99 one time fee) and can now use my cordless landline phone all over the house. For me it is a win-win. I would recommend the magic jack....it works!!! ... show more
