I like the look and feel of this velvet tie -- it's a rich deep color that is even better with the velvet texture. As with any velvet fabric, it can catch the light differently when the fibers are not evenly smoothed (might be smudge-y), so you do want to apply a little extra care if you want it to look very smooth and even. "When would I ever wear a plum-colored velvet tie?" I asked myself, as I shuffled through my two-dozen safe, corporate-approved polyester blue striped ties. But I took a chance, and ordered this tie in a color I haven't worn since the 70s. It surprised me. The color is quite rich and deep. Nowhere near as "Barney" as I'd feared. In some lights it will actually look black, but then a movement or a change in lighting reveals a subtle color. I apologize for waxing rhapsodic about a tie, but it is one of the few items of men's semi-formal clothing that allows us to take a risk here and there. This risk was well worth it. 5/5 ... show more

This is a great tie. It exceeds my expectations. The material is high quality — much higher than my other ties. In this case, you get what you pay for — in a good way. As part of the Vine program, this item was provided to me at no cost. Would I personally purchase this tie for $50? No, because it's out of the price range for ties that I personally buy. Very good quality for the price. The material is a soft velvet and looks and feels thick and premium. The color is pretty muted and brown. Overall length could be a little longer.
