    • Good, but be careful on what drives you pick

I ordered this so I could swap out a drive in case I needed to do something with another drive. Recieved it earlier today and installed it, I installed with the drives already in place, I screwed a total of 6 screws in the corners and the middle holes on the board for a snug fit. The reason for the 3 stars is because the top drive doesn't get detected by my system, the rest does. I have yet to find a solution but am willing to change from 3 star to a 4 or 5 depending on how simple of a fix it is, and will also update explaining how I fixed the issue Edit: I think i figured out the issue that was causing the problem. The drives i was using and what most people are trying to use doesnt support hot swapping natively. The only drives i had that could constantly read was the WD Blue 4tb(i only have the 4tb to test with). I originally had 2 WD Blue with a 8tb hdd i pulled from a external hard drive, which didnt work. I went and bought a WD Black 4tb from best buy and had the same issue. Just to be on the safe side i was swapping the WD Blues between each bay making sure each bay was actually working as intended and they all were working. So i returned the WD Black and replaced with a WD Blue 4tb. So far i havent had any other issues and have increased the rating from 3/5 to 4/5. It works fine and is a nice addition to get a case-mounted Type C port in my case. However, the instructions were incorrect - the two screws included did not fit the two holes the sheet said to use to mount it to the PCB. However, I used one of the screws in the third hole on the connector, and that seems to work fine. ... show more

The install on this was not hard at all. Just remove the IO panel from your case if it’s screwed on like mine was on my Lian Li || mesh case. Snap the star shaped part on and screw into the board with provided hardware. Place back onto the case and adjust cable(s) according to your case and the other end gets connected to power. Took me about 5 minutes to do. Packaging was good, cable itself is pretty good and snapped right into my IO Panel nicely. Took a little moving around to align everything back into the case for the different connection ports and their slot shapes but wasn’t too bad. Got a type C extension for my hub on my desk and everything works well connections are smooth and doesn’t seem to have any trouble reading my USBs or SD cards. From my hub. ... show more

    • Works as a backplane for the case

This is a must have for the case makes a huge difference for sure. Came with the sled led plastic and the backplane card. Draw back is the sata input connections are easy to wiggle and could break with to much force or in my case shutting the case door. Use with extreme caution and will work great.

Plate is at least 2 mm off-center horizontally. To fit it in, will have to enlarge 4 holes for screws and 4 larger holes to allow the plate snap in, also shave off from the slanted edge at the bottom. Replacing doesn't make sense, because it has to fit the drive cage. Both pieces produced in different places and nobody knows, which piece went off the spec; probably both. For the plate manufacturer, will be wise to avoid the tight fit and make all holes larger. By me, one-page "manual" is all right and not really necessary: all is pretty clear. Although, I spent some time, trying to figure out how to peel off the stickers. After aligning the backplate with a file, everything works nicely. This piece is must-have. It's easy to install and works well. I just wish it wasn't an additional purchase and was just part of the case. I'm using this with a Lancool II Mesh RGB case and while it's a little annoying that you have to remove the whole case control panel to attach it, it isn't that difficult or time consuming. The directions are not the best, I ended up ignoring them because you just need to push the connector into the home in the panel and screw it in, took about 30 seconds. The screwed that came with it were correct and overall it only took a couple of minutes to do. I'll also add that this is the first build I've ever done and I have a pretty low skill set when it comes to building things. ... show more

    • Incomplete gimmick...

I've had two Lancool 2 cases and now just bought the Lancool 3, I bought one of these years ago after the Lancool 2 released and it's comical that it only comes with one super super tiny screw and the cable has THREE spots to put screws to secure it to the top IO. Most people say it's hard to install but it is not, just look at the instructions you can easily remove the 4 screws to pull down the top IO in the case or you can slide it over enough to barely come out of the back of the case. IMO this is just a gimmick. I rarely used the USB C I only got it so my case would look complete. Recently installed a second one in the second case for my nephew and it was way easier to do before routing cables and I attempted to use two additional screws I found to try and secure it as it could easily come loose frm the dinky tiny screw they supply you with. Thankfully the Lancool 3 comes with it out of the box so I recommend getting a Lancool 3 case and save yourself time and money. ... show more
