  • Totally surprised.
Color: US Flag
When I ordered this guitar I thought it’s cheap, probably arrive damages or broken. I carefully unboxed the guitar that was in a protective bag and styrofoam cut out for shipping. Everything was fine upon opening. After a quick tune I plug it in, H.O.L.Y S.H.I.T. I couldn’t believe it had true Humbucker sound! At most it just needs a set up and #9’s for me. It comes with 10’s. The finish is flawless. I thought a flag guitar would be cool, but for $180 I didn’t expect much. Absolutely has no cosmetic flaws. Beautiful. The fretboard a frets are done well and the tuner keys are authentic “Grovers”, card on the string and all. The headstock and neck are damn near spot on and the nut really is bone! The frets ends are beveled and super hard Blackwood fretboard with set in neck. All mahogany. The pot are smooth with speed hats. The pick up selector switch seems light. Everything is installed and secured properly. The action was high, but again, that’s part of the set up. I’m taking it to Kyle at GC Tempe, Az. to set it up, change the strings, lower the action and check intonation. It also comes with a patch cord. All in all I’m impressed at almost every level of this guitar. For $179 what do you expect? Especially since I’ve been playing 50 years and played many fine fiddles and own a real LP, SG etc. myself. I’m now going to put some black P-90 pick ups in it with the set up. (Going for the 50’s sound) Incredible performance for $180. I’m sure I’ll be playing this one for a while. Strongly recommended UPDATE: 10.29.23. Last pic is most current. I had Kyle GC Tempe, AZ install neck/bridge P-90 humbucker sized pick ups and set it up. This guitar sounded good right out of the box, and I was hoping for the Les Paul 1953 sound. Well… This is insane, Kyle set it up, intonation, etc and the pick ups. I can honestly say it’s so close, it’s not a Gibson LP, but I can only tell the difference in Leo Jaymes and Gibson is Leo’s P-90’s are nuts. (I’ll save the P-90 sound dissertation) so yah… best sounding Paul in the bunch for $179 guitar, set up $100, $40 pick ups. And BTY, it’s a “synthetic” nut, self lubing and harder than bone and the sustain and resonance can’t be overstated. Leo’s LP is my cheapest LP, yet now it’s close to my favorite. Definitely the most versatile. Incredible quality. Not one person’s walked by this LP and not said “oh, cool”. It is. Sounds better and the flag speaks for itself. Strongly recommend. ... show more

  • Excellent guitars that will need some TLC. Amazing guitar and sound!
Color: Skull
I'm reading some of the reviews and glad I didn't listen to some one offs. This is a solid guitar at this price range! I had an Epiphone 'similiar' model which didn't compare. Sorry never a Gibson owner because of the price! I'm not knocking Gibson or Les Paul but you charge way too much for your guitars! I'll start with the CONS: First, you have to know how to setup your guitar. If not have a local tech do. Should be less than $100 or learn yourself. Slight fret buzz but not bad (some metal shavings came off from the dremel polishing), lowered the action, the strings were fine (.10s I think) if I could salvage them. But cut em. Polish the frets, oil the fretboard, check your truss rod (mine didn't need adjusting)!! Check your intonation in case. This all goes for a $3000 guitar too ya know!! USA driven, China manufactured, to check for QA. PROs: This has become my new favorite guitar! It's beautiful! The hardware, body is solid, pickups, pots, detail, all good. Heavy but what a quality tone. Excellent! If you have an issue out of the box I expect good things from Leo support, didnt need yet. Please dont dissapoint Leo service! Play through some 'decent gear' and it sounds bright, vivid, loud, beautiful. Overall: Impressed does not explain my first reaction. I bought the Tempest model because I am just overall curious about Leo design, quality, and beauty at this price point! I expect this guitar to remain one of my favs! Update Mar31st - Needed to order a new bridge since E, B were rocking and loose. Asked LJ for support. They offered $20 to replace the bridge. Ok so I did. Next purchase I may send back to Amazon if it has issues. Leo Jaymz support is all email. Support lacks a decent response and time. A live person would be nice too! Add 4-28 Also bought the US Flag guitar. Needed the nut raised slightly. Put some thin double adhesive under it, glued it back in. It's a cheap nut unfortunately but works. Got the annoying mysterious buzz out and action lowered more too. Now it rocks! Still the bridge is cheap and will replace. These things setup right are hard to beat for this price. Sounds amazing! ... show more

  • Fantastic guitar... after a little TLC
Color: US Flag
Firstly, while the guitar isn't entirely free of cosmetic defects, overall it is well done and beautiful. Secondly, the setup is not good out of the box. The fret ends were not sticking out too much from the fretboard, but they were sharp. The strings sounded terrible. The action was playable, but high. Once I addressed those issues, the guitar is fantastic! Unfortunately, I had to deduct 1 star for the poor fretwork. There are several ways to address sharp fret ends and they are fairly simple and easy to do. Once you learn how to do that, it expands your selection of budget guitars, because you don't have to pass on the ones with the poorly reviewed fretwork. You can just fix it yourself with some inexpensive fret tools that you can get right here on amazon. With those that include fretboard protectors, you will be able to do the work fairly quickly and easily. The pickups are hot enough for me, so I like the sound. They sound good running clean. With the gain cranked up they sound great. This guitar would work for most music styles. I won't be changing them out. The neck was good and the tuners appear to be real Grovers. I say that because the guitar came with an authentic Grover lifetime warranty card hanging on a tuning peg. The other reason I don't think they are knockoffs is the tuning stability. Once I broke in the strings, no tuning stability issues at all. It stays in tune no matter what I throw at it (except of course the evil G string on rare occasion). Counterfeit parts rarely live up to their namesakes, so having Grover tuners is a huge bonus for such an inexpensive guitar. Bottom line, this guitar was well worth the extra time I put into getting it right, especially considering the low price. I would definitely buy this one again. ... show more
