This is one of the best LEGO builds my son has ever put together so far. It is a very detailed build that even the trash compactor section functions fully. A pricey set, but well worth the money. Its a must get LEGO set for ones collection.

To start, There are so many features that they don’t tell you about or show on the box. From the mini kit tucked away to the working elevator that traverses the entire set this beast is amazing!!! This set exceeded my expectations in every way and I’d recommend this set to any Star Wars fan or LEGO fan. I spent 10 days working on it a bit every day and had a blast through the entire process.     • The good, the bad, the breakable and the rebuild
Yes, it is a mortgage payment. However, I am a LEGO fanatic, and especially LEGO "Star Wars", so it was never a question as to whether or not I was going to buy this. I do not deny the ridiculous cost, and just how frivolous it is to put down this kind of money, but to each their own. The build experience is fun, but primarily because of the size of this thing; it really is cool to see it rise from your tabletop as each section is constructed. However, there are no real, "Wow, that is so cool!" moments when constructing it, or any of those satisfying moments when things really click/snap into place. I say this from the perspective of building hundreds of sets, so for those new(er) to LEGO or who've not built as many sets, the build experience might be more exciting. The finish product, though, really is impressive. I have lots of extra mini-figures from other sets, so was able to stock the Death Star full of storm troopers and various Imperial officers. Note that even though this thing comes with 40+ figures, it really should come with at least 50 to fill every section. I was able to also grab the gift with purchase "Tie Fighter", which looks great in the hangar bay and also helps to fill the space. But if I had to say one thing and one thing only about this set, it would be this: by all means, start building this in the location you intend to display it, because trying to move the completed model is impossible. There are videos on how to pick it up, but, trust me: the thing is so fragile and top heavy that regardless of where you pick it up, you're very likely going to drop it. And, drop it is exactly what I did. I will say that when it hit the floor, it broke apart in sections so I didn't have to tear it completely down and start from scratch. However, it still took a LOT of piece sorting, a lot of patience, and about a week and a half to put it back together. I suppose it was "fun" getting to build it a second time, but - ugh - sorting that many pieces is tedious. Overall, if you have the money and are a "Star Wars" fan (especially if you're old enough to remember seeing the original in theaters back in 1978), you will have a lot of fun with this one. Otherwise, and if you have lots of money to spend on LEGO, I'd recommend the Titanic or the "Lord of the Rings" Rivendell set (honorable mention would be the Star Trek "Enterprise"). If you want to stick with "Star Wars", the Millennium Falcon is the best of the $$ sets. ... show more

Adult lego fan, bought this to build over my Spring Break from work. WORTH EVERY PENNY and I'm not even a nig Star Wars fan...the building techniques and the cool ingenuity of design, the way everything fits together is the best part. It's big enough to break over a series of days or weeks to just enjoy the process. Warning: best not to try to move! I built in sections and added to the main build as I went along.
