I loved the idea and huge fan of both Van Gogh and LEGO I was excited to find it under the tree this year. Started right away and like all the other idea sets I was swept away by feeling like a true artist. One issue was keeping it together not the most durable set. The LEGO Ideas Gemälde 21333 is like a puzzle on steroids - except it's way more fun, and you don't have to hide the pieces from your dog. Assembling this masterpiece is a true test of your patience and dexterity, but the end result is worth it. The intricate details and vibrant colors make it look like a work of art, even though it's made of tiny plastic bricks. This set is absolutely wonderful for any lover of modern art, even if van Gogh isn't their favorite. It's also great for anyone who enjoys building clever Lego sets. Until Amazon starts to distribute this directly, it's probably best obtained directly from the manufacturer for the best price. I love the way this set is built up, brick by brick. The frame goes together quickly and is nice enough. The highlights are the foreground village, the starry swirl, the bush, and the backdrop. The parts that are really clever are how Lego has combined their blocks in perpendicular planes to create the whole picture. I love the way the bush protrudes from the front of the 'painting.' The three dimensional nature of this piece really complements van Gogh's thick paint/layered style. Even layering all those individual 1 x 4 pieces to create the backdrop is fun. Some will find this set tedious and others will complain about the lack of distinction in the color instruction book that makes distinguishing exactly which brick goes where a little tricky. To the detractors, I would say it wasn't as tedious as I feared and it is definitely possible to distinguish the colors in the excellent printed manual. I only made one mistake in the entire build, despite less than optimal lighting and rapidly aging eyesight! I really hope Lego Ideas creators continue to innovate in this manner. Compared to the horrendously boring "dots" artworks, this set is absolutely fantastic, both to build and display. More like this, please! ... show more
