This bookshelf is made well. To be melamine coated chipboard, which is basically a formica kitchen counter top, it looks good. The wood look boards that hold the shelves together are covered with a much thinner coating which gives them a more natural look, until you look at the end of the board and then you can see the engineered wood. I'm particular about furniture that isn't real wood but this one passes the test as far as looks go. It doesn't look really cheap and like it's gonna fall apart the first time you move it. It isn't too heavy for 1 person to move and feels sturdy. I wanted a shelf for plants and this is perfect because the water won't ruin the top. The dimensions given for the bookshelf aren't completely accurate. The actual height to the top of the lip in the back is about 35.5", not 37.4". The depth is actually 15.5" if you include the frame board in the back. It's 14.5" from the back lip to the front of the frame board. The rest of the measurements given on the measuring guide illustration are correct. The product dimensions in the description are completely wrong. The box that it comes in doesn't even have those dimensions so I'm not sure where they got those numbers from exactly. With that being said, putting this thing together was a bit of a chore. The directions are illustrations only, no written word directions. The descriptions of the screws are incorrect. There are 2 types of screws, not 3. 12 of them are 6mm and the rest are 4.5mm and actually the A04 screws are the 6mm, not the A07 screws. Then the piece numbers can hardly be seen on the little stickers they are typed on. When I did finally figure out what each number was, a few pieces weren't numbered correctly and I had to figure out what went where. These numbers are important because each back lip is different and goes with a certain shelf because the shelves are all different as well. They are all the same size, but the screw holes are in different locations because the support brackets angle outwards as they move to the bottom shelf. The issues with putting it together is the reason I only gave it 4 stars. So if you decide to get this unit, just don't start putting pieces together all willy-nilly.
