Description

The late Carlos "Patato" Valdez' remarkable career and ground-breaking multi- conga technique has inspired countless drummers, percussionists, and music lovers. His contribution to Latin music includes a unique "melodic" approach to conga playing, and has enabled his legacy to live on through his music. Played by professional congueros the world over, these fiberglass drums were developed in 1978 with "Patato", who required tall drums with a wide belly and small bottom that could project deep bass tones and great volume without sacrificing crisp, high sounds. They have the same shape as the Galaxy Fiberglass Congas, which are perfect for any style of music and sound great live.

I have a full set of the LP Patato line and I am very satisfied with them. I bought the tumba and conga from Amazon. The drums deliver great slaps, base and open tones. I may change the head on the conga to mule skin to see if I like it better. I am still determining if the head on the conga needs breaking in or delivers a sound too flat. The drums are very impressive to look at but it’s a shame that LP is discontinuing this line. The next level LP conga that is comparable is the Galaxy line which is more expensive. I think these are great drums but the price from this vendor is above list price and the cost of shipping makes the price outrageous. The bottom of the Patato line is very small which adds to the kick butt sound but you need to be careful not to tip the drum over. This famed tumbadora is perhaps the greatest fiberglass conga ever designed from the genius of Carlos Valdez. Mr. Patato himself requested the 30” tall fat belly tapered to a tight mouth at the bottom. This unique shape delivers bombastic bass notes, clearly sustained open tones and solid warm muffs as well as colorful heel toes and the loudest crispy slaps. Excellent sound and very well made. A lot of volume and bass. If you don't feel comfort with a 28" fiberglass conga, try this one. You will notice the difference at 30". Now LP is making the Patatos with the same fiberglass shell of the LP Galaxy Fiberglass congas and a wider bottom. They look, feel and sound awesome! ... show more
