  • Great practice conga
I bought this for practicing as I am new to this instrument, since it is much smaller than a full size conga. Here is what I can say. For the extra $35 the 11.75" version is worth it. You can tune the 11" version lower to sound the same, but for a beginner, the main advantage of this size is not in the tone, but in the larger drum area to work with for heel and tip motion practicing, as well as practicing slaps. The sound is surprisingly realistic considering there is no actual conga. The slap and open tones sound very good and it is very easy to tell if you are hitting it correctly from the sound. The bass tone is non existent on this unit because there is no chamber to resonate. All the other above sounds really come from the head, so it sounds almost identical to a full size conga. The build quality on this is very high, the entire frame is built from heavy polished aluminum, and lots of hardware holding tension. This feels solid no matter how it is mounted. I would hazard a guess to say it is built much better than the cheap $149 starter congas. I use this mostly on my lap (no stand) while sitting on the couch and it is heavy enough that it does not move around at all (this was one of my biggest worries about this). My favorite things about this are #1 It allows me to practice anywhere, #2 It does not annoy the neighbors, #3 it fits in my laptop bag, #4 it sounds great. I probably would not recommend it for live performance, but for practice it is awesome. ... show more

  • Great Practice Tool!
Is this a replacement for a real conga? Nope. Not even close. But sometimes you want to practice and not lug around a big ol' drum, and this little guy fits the bill nicely. The 11 3/4" size makes it large enough to practice most techniques, including heel/toe and slaps. You can practice bass technique as well, but it won't actually sound like a real bass hit at all. ... show more

  • Compact conga - nice addition to a trap set.
Great conga sound that’s compact and portable. Not quite as deep and resonant as a full sized conga, but a nice addition to a trap set. A little pricey for what it is compared to a full sized conga.

  • For Specialized Uses and Practice But Watch Size
These are for specialized uses and practice. They are not loud enough or capable of producing the wide variety of sounds that congas with shells obviously can. For this reason, I think these drums are not good for beginners because, when using them, a beginner will be missing the full experience, and playing techniques will not produce the same results on these. Another issue is size. Despite what the listing says, these drum heads measure a little less than 11.75 inches, and the 11.75 inches DOES NOT INCLUDE the metal frame. If you are trying to transport them, you will need a bag about 1.5 inches larger than the advertised width because of the frame. ... show more

  • I love this guy
I bought two quintos and a conga...the conga is tuned to a tumba and the second quinto as a conga...for travel drums they sound fantastic and are fun to play....

  • My opnion about LP compact conga
It's good, confortable, very nice, several musicians that I know have very good impressions, but I think the souds it's not as good as a "regular" congas; I know, It'l depend on model I compare. A warning, I'm not a professional, I'm a rockie.
