Top Amazon Reviews

  • Very comfortable
I've waited close to a year now to buy one of these so I could do some research beforehand and see if this (any) Kindle would be worth the price(s)-- I did wait for it to go on sale so I can't claim to have paid full price for it, though. Overall I am satisfied with my Kindle Paperwhite, it has a lot of features I did not know existed (I recommended Googling hidden features for it). The feel is smooth and comfortable to hold (without a case), I don't find my hands cramping up or my joints hurting while trying to grip it when reading like I would a heavier tablet. I used to read on my phone which not only drained the battery at a rapid rate but also hurt my hands and eyes at nighttime when laying down or at any angle. The Kindle Paperwhite has a really good battery thus far and a quick charge time. Granted, I've only been doing about an hour of reading on it at a time. I've read some conflicting reviews about the battery draining really fast while connected to wifi, but I haven't noticed anything myself (I used airplane mode on and off to test it but still have not noticed anything draining). The picture quality is clear and I don't feel any eye strain or irritation when reading in the dark (a big plus for me). I would have rated this product as five out of five but I do have a few complaints and recommendations for Amazon. One of the key features that I favored about the Kindle app was the ability to virtually turn a page on my screen while reading. Having to tap my Kindle screen on the right or left takes away from the unique nature of it a little (perhaps an option to turn it on or off could be made?). Another complaint I have is the touch feature itself, I sometimes find I have to tap the screen multiple times to get it to respond to me. This does not always happen, but I have caused myself to jump a few pages while trying to get where I am going. It is not a big deal per se, but I do find myself a bit of a stickler with touch screens and their sensitivity (I don't want to tap too hard and break my screen). The last thing I am not a big fan of is that it does not actually turn off. Holding the power button and clicking "turn off screen" when it appears is supposed to be the equivalency I suppose? I use this feature regularly because when I closed the case (I have a magnet case that sets it in standby) I did notice without placing it in "turn off screen" mode that my battery does drain about 40%-60% after some days of leaving it as so. "Turn off screen" does save battery significantly, it just feels very odd to me not having a proper "off" or "shut down" mode. Overall I do recommend this product for reading on the go or to simply give your eyes a rest from staring at a phone/tablet screen. ... show more

  • Love
I’m an avid reader. I love that kindle allows me to take a library with me everywhere I go.

  • Good for visually impaired
I had been an avid reader my entire life, that was until I developed vision problems and was declared “legally blind” at age 37. Reading had become a challenge that left me exhausted and frustrated. I tried reading glasses, magnifying glasses but nothing made reading enjoyable. I owned the original kindle and although I could enlarge font, lack of backlighting made it annoying to need a book light. I bought the newest kindle hoping it would get me back to reading. Success! This device got me back to reading! I’ve been blazing through about a book a week since I’ve had it. My only complaints are that it’s a little difficult to hold one handed and go to the next page, and the page turner mechanism sometimes freak out on me, flipping more than one “page” sometimes and I have to back up to get where I was. Neither of these issues are deal-breakers for me. Watching TV is a challenge for me due to my low vision and listening to books or podcasts is good but I wanted to read, it’s a sweet escape only a fellow reader would understand, for me it’s living vicariously. Thanks to the newest kindle, I’m back to discovering new worlds, meeting new people and solving mysteries! I can’t say enough about it, and you have nothing to lose just by trying it because Amazon’s guarantee and return policy are the best. If you are a low-vision person or have a loved one experiencing low-vision who was once a reader but finds it challenging, get this kindle and at least try it! And give the kindle unlimited a shot too, great new authors and stories! ... show more

  • I'm inclined to tell you to trust the bad reviews
I wanted to love this Kindle. When it works, I do love it. My husband had an older Kindle Paperwhite and I wanted my own and figured I'd get the updated one. Bad mistake. My husbands 6 year old Kindle is still going strong, no compliants there. So when I read the new one is supposed to be even better, I was super excited. I like the flush screen, the slight difference in weight and thinness but that's it. With my first one, I sent it back to exchange for another one because it kept having this loading screen that came up so often that I couldn't even read a book. Mind you the book was already downloaded, and I had it on airplane mode to save battery which is definitely needed. I talked to customer service, the first person I spoke to said that's a bug that'll be fixed in an update and I just have to wait for a new update and I was instructed to do a hard reset. That didn't take care of the problem so I complained again. This time I was offered to have it exchanged so I sent it back and then the replacement one never got to me as it was delivered to the wrong address and I got someone else's package. So I had to complain again to customer service and they sent another one. I finally get it, and now this one not only has the annoying downloading page that comes up so often that interferes with your reading, but the image is glitching, freezing, and some pages in a downloaded book will not download no matter what I do, which leads to a repeat of more loading screens. In both devices (the one returned and the replacement) the battery life sucks. The first one I sent back only lasted 9 hours of reading on the lowest light setting, Bluetooth off and airplane mode on/wifi off. The new replacement, won't even stay charged! It will say 100% then you unplug it and it automatically drops to 99% and I can only imagine it'll get worse as I use it. If you keep wifi on, it'll last about 2 hours max. What about the WEEKS of charge as promised? The good reviews saying 40 plus hours? Actually the person who said it lasted 40 hours was slightly complaining saying it should last more than that. Well I'd love if I could get 40 hours from mine instead of 2 (with wifi on) or 8 with everything turned off or on low settings. Either I got a dud twice, or the really good reviews are fake. I don't know what to do, if I should keep it or not. When it does work, I like it. But I read at least 3 hours a day and have to charge it every two days. When it does the loading page, it drops the battery even more quickly and there's no way to get around the random loading even when the book is supposedly fully downloaded and in airplane mode. As well as that taking time away from your reading, so much time spent randomly stuck on loading. And even when not using the device, over night it drop 15 percent!! Im upset and don't know if I should keep it or just get my money back. I don't know how long this thing will last me or if it'll even be worth it because it's hard to say when it'll work and you don't know how long you have to read before it'll randomly glitch or load and be stuck. The original and replacement both have issues so I doubt another exchange would give better results. ... show more
