Even with just one test spray on the back of my hand the scent is overpowering. In face, it’s so overpowering that you can’t get rid of it. I tried washing my hand a number of times but could not get rid of the scent. I won’t be able to wear it or I would have to burn the clothes I was wearing. My husband has been wearing the same cologne for several years. It's OK. But it was time for something new. I'll be honest: When I first smelled Copper Black, it didn't smell very masculine to me at all. My husband wasn't home when it first arrived, so I sprayed it once into the box, just so I could see what it was like. I liked it, but it initially reminded me more of perfume, less of men's cologne. Why, exactly, I'm not sure. Maybe because it's not musky at all? I really don't like musky scents for men or women, so I was fine with this. But I was really curious what my husband would think. I didn't tell him my initial thoughts. I just handed him the bottle and suggested he put some on the next morning. When I actually smelled it on him, it smelled completely different. I don't know if that's just a combination of whatever smell he naturally has mixed with this cologne, or if it's just that it smells differently when sprayed on skin. Whatever it was, I liked it MUCH better. I can't speak the language of "notes" and "tones" with fragrance or with wine. What I can say is that this smells just fruity enough to make me like it. My husband likes it and now wears it daily. He's a man of few words and just said, "I like it. It's nice." For what that's worth. But he's not a "man's man" sort of tough guy. He wouldn't be put off by a fragrance that doesn't smell hyper masculine. It seems to me that this is a fragrance that won't appeal to everyone. This is my husband's first time trying a Kenneth Cole fragrance and he was definitely impressed! The bottle itself is masculine, high quality, and sophisticated looking. The bottle colors and design are dark, rich, and classic. Fragrances are so personal which makes them a bit difficult to review. This fragrance is not your typical cheap smelling, in your face sporty scent that chokes the life out of you when someone completely douses themselves in it!!! Many men's fragrances, especially the ones sold in mass market stores, give me such bad headaches when I'm around people that wear them. This fragrance is upscale, masculine, bold, woodsy, with a touch of sportiness. It has a touch of sweetness to it but not too much. My husband hates sweet scents and wouldn't wear anything that was super sweet. This fragrance is not overpowering in the least but it is definitely noticeable. When my husband wears this fragrance, I get frequent scent wafts when he walks by me. I love the scent so that works for me. :) The fragrance holds up well during the day, even when my husband is extremely active. Naturally, it isn't as strong by the end of the day as it was when he first sprays it, but the fragrance does linger. Some cheaper fragrances and body sprays lose their fragrance notes throughout the day and only smell like alcohol after awhile. Not the case with this whatsoever! While I would personally never select a fragrance for someone since they are so personal, this one would make a wonderful gift if you just knew that this scent would be loved by the recipient! While I am not smelling anything that the maker is telling me that I should be smelling, this cologne is a decent one for Fall and Winter. I love cologne and definitely have my favorites for different seasons. This cologne is a heavier scent and I would definitely recommend more towards the colder months as it a heavy scent. I do not smell any apple or ginger in this cologne but more of a tobacco and black pepper fragrance in its top notes. As it settles, the colognes flattens into a flat woodsy cedar fragrance with mild hints of that same vintage tobacco aroma. The sillage is average for a cologne and for me, lasted around 8 hours. As the fragrance fades, it comes off more and more woodsy. For the price and how long it lasts, I’d say that this is just above average cologne. I’d recommend for those who like heavy, tobacco and cedar fragrances. ... show more
