Built on the same lightweight mountaineering platform as the Mountain Extreme series, these boots offer strength without the excessive weight of traditional fire boots. Constructed with 2.8mm fire-resistant rough out leather, the 10-inch upper features a one-piece vamp and seamless tongue design that enhances durability and allows the boot to conform naturally to the foot over time. A full-length 7mm tapered nylon midsole delivers the structural support needed for stability across uneven terrain, while Kenetrek Supportive Footbeds provide arch support and a defined heel pocket for long- lasting comfort. Extra padded soft collars and a flex notch design help reduce pressure and improve mobility during extended use. The K-73 Fire outsole ensures traction on loose soil, ash, and rugged ground conditions. Fully certified to NFPA standards, these lightweight heat-resistant boots meet strict safety and performance requirements for wildland fire applications. I've been looking for something lightweight, supportive and comfortable to replace both my White's Smokejumpers and Scarpa Fuego boots. I've never been fully comfortable with either style, but I like certain attributes of both. In my opinion the Kenetreks are the perfect blend of the two styles. The White's and Scarpas are both big, heavy boots while the Kenetreks feel noticeably lighter and less clunky than the others. The White's have a tall logger style heal while the Fuegos are more flat...both have their advantages depending on the terrain you're in. The Kenetreks have a heal height that's right in between and appropriate for just about any country you might be in. Even the overall height of these boots is right between the shorter height of the Fuego and the taller height of the Smokejumpers. Despite being shorter and lighter than the Smokejumpers these provide more support throughout the entire boot. In addition to being more supportive the also provide more protection higher up on your leg compared to the Scarpas. In other words, these are "just right" in a lot of ways. Comfort: Break-in seems like it will be a non-issue - something that both of the other boots required. I usually try to swap out insoles for something like Super Feet, but that was totally unnecessary with these boots. The included insoles have good support and felt best. Looks: This boot is somewhat a blend of logger and hiker style boots. I think the boots are understated and blend in nicely on the fire line. Durability: Kenetrek stands behind their boots so I'm unconcerned with longevity at this point. In fact I don't expect them to last as long as something like a White's Smokejumper and that's okay because they are lighter and more comfortable. Obviously if they fall apart prematurely I'll update the review. One note - the laces seem a little thin and I replaced them with a thicker diameter Kevlar lace (probably unnecessary but I prefer Pro Tough laces). Fit: True to size. Buy what you normally wear. There's a little wiggle room at the end of toe box so I'm not jamming up my toes on those descents. I have zero heel slippage. With use I expect these will wrap around my feet perfectly and have zero hotspots. ... show more

Great boots

I use these for walking through fields, not mountain climbing. From past experience, I am pretty sure the soles have enough stiffness in them to walk over rocks. I have the same boots in the low style. The high style provides a lot of ankle support compared to the low's. The soles are stiffer and provide more arch support than Merrill MOAB's. I usually wear 12 to 12 1/2. The 13's I bought are a smidgen too long and too wide. By adjusting the tightness of the laces, it locks my feet into the proper place. They do break in and fit better after the break in. Update 2/24/18: After 3 years, the support in the soles has significantly broken down. My best estimate is I've put 200 - 250 miles on the boots. Looking back, I probably should have replaced them 12 to 18 months ago. I've replaced this with both Merrel MOAB 2's and another pair of these Kenetrek Bridger boots. The Kenetrek's have a stiffer sole. The Merrell's are very comfortable and provide a feel of 'insulation' from the ground. ... show more

Best boot for the money

Favorite wild land boots I’ve worn. Can’t compare durability to loggers, but these are the best blend of traction and comfort. Fits as expected, has a good heal for steep terrain with good ergonomics too.

They're waste of $500

After a single shift on a dead fire, the sides peeled off the leather and the heel had to be glued back on. Nearly $500 boots that didn't last a single shift. Tried contacting customer service to get a replacement to no avail.

Solid and Comfortable

This is my second pair of these boots. They hold up pretty good, I wear them both on fires and out on project/cutting trees. They're comfortable right out of the box and break in easy.
