OVERALL RATINGS: --PRICE: 9/10 - good brand and well priced --DURABILITY: 8/10 so far - would work well as skate shoes --LOOKS: 7.5/10 (the tan is too orange-y) --COMFORT: 6/10 (at first, getting better as I break them in) MY NOTES: These are interesting, and I'm not sure how I feel about Jousen's choice to go with such thick Polyurethane rubber-y material for the entire top of the body. The look, flat laces and style is great, and works well usually with any more flexible materials, or perhaps with some strategic stitching to provide more flex, but due to this shoe using such a thicker and durable plastic the shoes tend to make a squeaking noise as I walk in them. It's not super loud, but it makes them feel kind of plastic-y and cheap on my feet. I think the white color would probably work best, since this material would enable them to stay clean, wipe off easily, and provides waterproof protection. But the tan leather-imitation color here comes off a bit "orange" in certain lights. I own other pairs of shoes made by Jousen and can vouch that they are a high quality brand I like a lot. Any of their real leather shoes I've worn are amazingly well done - but if these tan ones are their attempt at a leather alternative, it's not the most ideal. The soles are thick and durable feeling, but also stiff and seem they will need a long break-in period to get flexible and comfortable. I tried tightening the laces more to force them to flex with my foot, but it created odd pockets around the toes near the first laces and I had to loosen them again to get rid of it.

I measure at a 12.5 American shoe size so I ordered the 13. Shoes like this tend to look like clown shoes on my feet, but these somehow avoid that. I love skate style shoes and prefer most of what I wear to match that style. I have ridden my longboard with these and they give pretty good feedback. So far, they seem to be well made. Skating in them hasn't made any part of them start to fall apart. They do squeak from time to time as the tongue rubs and flexes against the laces. Most of the time I don't hear it though. They're pretty comfortable length and width-wise, but the footbed is pretty solid and unforgiving. Definitely more of a fashion shoe than a functional one. You could easily dress up with these as easily as wearing them with jeans. They're a lot shinier than the pictures really show. Not quite a mirror finish but I feel like it wouldn't take much to polish them up to that. I feel the asking price is appropriate for what you get.

Ordered these for my boyfriend because I really like the look of them. Not as causal as a athletic sneaker but not a dress shoe. He said he also likes the look of them and said they are comfortable. I was surprised he liked them because he has the hardest time finding shoes. He broke his foot a few years ago, one toe didn’t heal properly causing the bend in it to stick up a little and rub on most shoes. These didn’t have that issue. They weren’t loose or overly big, but maybe because they’re on the firmer/stiffer side they don’t allow unnecessary movement inside. Idk we’re not 100% sure what is making these shoes better than most, but he’s happy about it. The only issue is they make a lot of noise. A LOT. It’s coming from the PU leather, not the soles. Hoping we will figure out a way to get them to stop squeaking because he really wants to be able to wear these. If the noise continues I highly doubt he’ll wear them at all.
