There is lots of padding at the ankle and it is wide enough that my feet don't hurt. I can tell it is very stiff so there is extra support for jumps. I would go half otr full size up if you have wide feet.

    • Really Good Skates but...

Negative first: I have bought a really good pair of skates but after almost 3 months of skating I am still trying to break them in my feet are killing me by the time I'm done skating and unfortunately I skated better in the rentals I skate once a week for about 2.5 hours I wear gel sleeves and gel pads and I fell so bad on it because my toe pick hit the ice that I have a movable hard piece in my knee I have had them baked and stretched and they are still fighting I feel like even though I am a beginner I am completely relearning how to skate it really bites I'm just hoping that they break in soon Now for the Positives: They are really good quality, strong and well made with good materials. Blades are nice really strong and the pro shop owner said that they were a pleasure to sharpen and they really held the ice after they were sharpened the toe pick really grips the ice and is easily accessible when skating as you don't have to dig it in hard as it kind of works on it's own to be honest all of my other skate I had to really bite the ice with them for them to work. Overall a really good purchase and it will be even better when they finally break them in which will hopefully be really soon fingers crossed ... show more

This pair was an upgrade from the Jackson Soft Skate. Jackson has a chart that covers the weight factor as well what your skater is doing on ice. The Elle is the skate recommended for my 6 year old. Her older sister skated in another size Elle last year and loved them, so I had no hesitation. The heat molding system is the key to no complaint, pain free skating. This child often skates barefoot and we've yet to see a blister. Great skate and reasonably priced for this level. ... show more

    • Beautiful and supportive skates
I purchased these as my first pair of real figure skates after having used old/cheap recreational skates for a year. These are so much more supportive and glide so smoothly on the ice! I’m sure I’ll be able to progress so much better on these. The ankles and tongue are very nicely padded and very comfortable. I absolutely love them! I definitely recommend sizing down, even after measuring and using the size chart. I wear a women’s 7 in street shoes, and by my foot measurements I was exactly a 7 on Jackson’s size chart. However upon receiving them I had a lot of room in front of my toes and felt like I’d be sliding around in them. Exchanged them for a size 6 and they fit perfectly! ... show more

When I first tried these on, I thought I had to return them because they were SO TIGHT. Well, I measured my foot properly prior to ordering and after consulting with my coach, she said they were a perfect fit - they're supposed to feel tight. After 10 minutes of wearing them around my house, my toes feel more comfortable and I can definitely feel how supportive they are. The Freestyle's are wonderful skates for Basic 6 and up, I went from Jackson Mystiques to the Freestyle's after 8 months or so of skating. I'm an adult skater with a little extra weight so waltz jumps landings were getting a little funky in my Mystique's towards the end of their use. The skates fits well and has excellent blades. Our daughter has been skating for many years. She is very happy with the new upgraded skates. We were having some problem with one of the skates, but the seller took care of it with a quick response. We are very happy with the purchase.

They are very stiff when you first start. Unlacing the top lace helps with flexibility while you break into them. But I love them.
