I bought this 5-shelf version because I bought the 3-shelf version and loved it. The 3-shelf version was extremely easy to assemble. The 5-shelf version, however, requires some screws that the 3-shelf version didn't require, and honestly I thought they had sent the wrong screws because I couldn't get them to go in. My husband had to do it and he was sweating by the end of it. The screws didn't fit well, so he had to power through, and there were fine metal shavings on the floor when he was done (due to MAKING them fit). Decent little shelf. The box was pretty beat up when I got it but the packaging inside was enough to keep the shelf safe from damage. The instructions are pretty vague but also fairly self explanatory. Make sure when you assemble it the top and bottom “arm” pieces have the small threaded hole on the same side. It is for the brace in the back. Materials were obviously cheap. The wood is just particle board with a cheap veneer glued on. It looks fairly decent but won’t ever be mistaken for high end furniture. If you catch an edge with a hand or finger the laminate will come up. It’s not glued down the best but it’s manageable. The bolts and screws are pretty soft and easy to strip. I was afraid of over tightening and damaging the shelf. Overall, it works, looks nice from 5 feet away, and was pretty simple to assemble in about 10 mins. About what I expected for what I paid so I am happy with the purchase. ... show more

This shelf is relatively easy to assemble, but that being said...the instructions are terrible. I'm pretty handy so I was able to decipher the pictographs pretty easily, but I can honestly see why people struggle to put this together using the provided build instructions. That being said, this shelf is even nicer in person than I expected and overall a decent price considering it's look and sturdiness. The shelves are not 100% wood but they still look really nice and are heavy and solid. It works perfectly for my pantry and I plan to buy one or 2 more to complete my project. I would recommend having a cordless drill and bit set as it will make assembly much easier than trying to turn in all the screws by hand. I did it myself in about 40 minutes with the distraction of 2 active toddlers but it could be done faster having a second person to hold the legs during shelf installation and assembly. Very easy to assemble. (I did manage to put one piece in backwards and had to unassemble a section to correct my mistake - so watch for the placement of the cross brace holes to make sure they are all in the back!) Great shelves, easy to attach, all tools included - together and on wall in less than 30 minutes. Filled and in use immediately. Very pleased - recommended and showed off to several people all ready! I bought a set of bookshelves from this company and a year ago. So when I moved to a bigger place I got more because I loved the original ones I ordered. They look amazing. Easy to put together and are incredibly strong. Each shelf holds 200 pounds I believe. My books are light but it's good to know that they can handle heavy items. ... show more

Part G does not go into the predrilled holes. I've tried and so has my husband. We even tried hitting them in with a hammer. Since I can't get this part in the shelves, ordered 2, they are incomplete and unusable. Absolute waste of my time and money. Messaged the seller and received the run around regarding parts and did I try this and that. I've assembled furniture before and never have I experienced something so difficult. The 3 shelf unit I purchased went together with zero issues but the screws used for that item were Allen wrench screws and not Phillips head like these shelves. Requested return and refund. They would be beautiful and match the others in the room if not for this problem. ... show more

The screw holes for the diagonal braces were drilled too small for the included screws. Also, only 3 of the 4 holes were drilled on the correct side, the 4th hole was on the opposite, wrong side so I could only use one brace. Also, you need a cordless drill for the screw holes that connect the top and bottom sections because the little screwdriver/hex wrench supplied w/ the product does not allow sufficient torque to get the screws in. Have a cordless drill w/ correct hex head and a phillips head. Couldn't return item because I ordered it for my mom who lives out of town and by the time I was able to get to it and discovered the poor machining, oops, too late!, But despite this the company was willing to work w/ me and refunded the entire purchase price. Would recommend the company and suggest the cordless drill. I doubt that the predrilled holes are wrong on other units, just my bad luck to get one where one hole was located incorrectly. Do not buy these shelves. Several customers experienced the same issue we did. The hardware does not screw easily into the pre-drilled holes. We tried with power tools and ended up stripping the screws completely. We got lucky with two sets that went together with some brute strength but the third set was a no-go. We had to return it and it was crazy expensive to return. Had to pay $80 in shipping costs to send it from Minnesota back to California. The shelves that went together do look nice but I wouldn't chance it purchasing another one, for fear of the same problem. Edit: I feel the need to update my review. I received good customer service with the issues we experienced. After I shipped back the shelves, (which was, to my surprise, unnecessary because it was defective) they sent me another shelf and refunded the cost of the defective unit I had purchased. Ultimately still a bit of a headache but I appreciate not being out so much money for a shelf. ... show more
