Purchased a XL and was still a little tight

  • It's a convertible!
Size L fits as expected, and except for a strong chemical odor, the helmet appears satisfactory and well made. Instead of a conventional double-D ring chin strap, this helmet has a ratcheting clip at the end (like a hemostat lock) which is inserted into a toothed, spring-loaded locking mechanism. So instead of adjusting the fit every time you wear the helmet, the fit remains constant. I presume that you could loosen it a bit by not inserting the clip fully, but this is probably not advised. To remove the strap, you pull down the the easy-to-locate tab under your left ear and the clip jaw opens. The entire front of the helmet swivels up to create an open-face helmet. Pushing down on the small tab in the middle of the chin piece unlocks the faceshield. On my helmet, when closing the faceshield only when it is not being worn, the left side locking mechanism in the helmet is a tiny bit too far in to properly engage the stud on the faceshield without some wiggling. Even in a crash situation, I doubt this would make much difference based on how the helmet is designed. Most likely this situation will improve with use, since we are talking about 1mm of misalignment and the chinpiece material should eventually conform to the correct position. Between the faceshield and the helmet proper is a pull-down sunshade like that on a helicopter pilot helmet. The pulldown tab on the left top of the opened helmet is a bit small and hard to locate, and it would be nice (for me) if the sunshade came down a a tiny bit lower, but then it might interfere with glasses, large noses, etc. That having been said, it's a great idea especially for those late afternoon rides into the setting sun. The sunshade is exactly the darkness that I would choose for it. Another excellent feature of this helmet is the removable liner with snaps in the back to hold it in the proper position. If you've ever worn a helmet in hot weather, you probably realize how nice it is to be able to wash the liner. Not having worn it riding, and since my bike has a windshield, I can only speculate on the helmet's aerodynamic qualities, but based on fit and appearance it should perform well either open or closed, without a lot of grabbing when you turn your head, unless you look almost straight up. Small fixed air vents in front and back of the helmet presumably help vent moisture and minimize fogging while riding. I bought this primarily as a winter helmet, since the cold dry Arizona air really hurts my nose & eyes even with a windshield. Back east I wore helmets with flip-up faceshields or bubble-shields, and without a windshield the flip-ups would catch the wind and flip up if you looked up, and the bubble shields would twist your helmet if you turned your head sideways, so I wanted to stay away from those options. While I'm not a big fan of full-face helmets, the modular idea appealed to me. While it probably provides less protection for your face if you crash, a helmet with a faceshield that locks in place, provides additional crash protection, AND can be easily moved out of the way seems like a winning idea... especially if you throw in the added utility of the sunshade. ... show more

  • Guess I have a big chin??
Size: X-Large Color: Gloss Black
According to the chart I got the XL. It's a bit tight. But may get better in time. The one big thing that bothers me is my chin hits on the inside when fully closed. I even removed a plastic part holding some of the liner material near the button to open the face up. That did help some, but still annoying. It's not like i have a chin like Leno or anything :-) All in all it's a okay helmet ... show more

  • Nice!
Size: Large Color: Red
I'm not sure why some of the reviews say the helmet is too light weight and not well made. I received my helmet today and it is nicer than I expected. I am new to riding as a passenger, this is my first helmet, but I did my research. I took my husband to several stores to try on helmets and I borrowed a few to experience the different types while riding. I discovered I like the full face modular. I am clostrophobic and need to be able to take the helmet off quick when we stop so a modular makes it easy for me. And the two shields give me the option of not having to wear sun glasses durin the day. But in all my discovery time I fouND out the cost of a modular was more than I wanted to spend. When I found this one on Amazon for the price, I thought I'd try it. It will meet my needs and red is the color I wanted. Not many options for red modular helmets... This helmet looks and feels great.! I measured my head as suggested, and measured a medium. I opted for a large since I have a lot of hair and wanted to be able to wear it up if needed. The size fits perfect. It doesn't squeeze my cheeks or hurt my jaw like some I tried on. The padding comes out to be able to wash if needed. Very nice feature. I did only give it 4 stars cuz the smell in the inside was horrible... I sprayed it with fabric spray but it still smells. I'm letting it air out so we will see.... But I do love the color, the look, comfort and feel.... eventually I know the smell will fade. Update: we took a long ride so I got the full use of the helmet... I love the dual visors, I used them both. The freeway noise does get a little intense, but it's part of the whole experience of riding anyway. The quick release on the strap is great for the easy removal, and the modular portion lifts up and locks down with ease. After a 2 day ride the smell is starting to ease up. I won't lie, this did make me a bit nautious the first 3 hrs, but the smell is starting to fade. For the price I can't complain. It is just what I wanted without all the expense. ... show more
