Description

Veteran Tire's Hornet turf line is designed with a high traction tread and a long wear rubber compound. Our tires are never compressed for ease of mounting. While not compressed for shipping purposes, lawn and garden tires are not radial tires, and can be difficult to mount due to their construction and low ply compared to radial automotive tires.

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars They hold air.. THATS about it for my purposes.
Size: 20x8.00-8
Entire new REVIEW/edit. I discovered my orig 2012 oem Carlisle's sidewalls far more dryrotted than expected after doin more thorugh inspection, aside from them leaking down every day. Reading a few reivews on tubes, I just chose these budget tires vs goin with tube option. TWO mistakes: 1. I thot these woud privide at least SOME better traction over carlle turf saver with only 200hrs on them. SCAM. I've been stuck MORE on these NEW budget specials than worn turnbsafers on onoy my 1st time use. 2. TUBES woudl have been cehaper option which if o cahnged my mind down the road for tires..would not been such total $$ LOSS. PICTURES are misleading to say the LEAST...new these tires have LESS tread { 1/8" IF that} vs my set of OE Cubby CArlie TurfPro with 450hrs! have pics. These tires HOLD AIR and not good for much else after my two trial runs on these tires. I MISSED my return window by ONE DAY so I haev to EAT the cost in full. On BOTH front and rear sets! I will sellthem half price or just THROW AWAY or at worst keep fpr new spares when I sell mower. HATED these tires SO much I bougth a NEW [used] MOWER to which i THEN found myself in SAME boat with bad tires. BUT THIS TIME I was buyer-savvy, bought LOCAL and BRAND NAME top-of-line KENDA's whic have LTERAL 15/32nd's... essentially HALF INCH TREAD if you cant convert the math. Pics proivided comapring two NEW tires...these Budget SPecial JUNK..vs KENDA K-series... were TWICE the money but 3x the tire! Like OTHER FOLKS as well...thse Hornet budget-specials as i call them ALSO came in 1.5" SMALLER than OE CArliles...so I also wasted hour trying to get blede deck unscrewed. ANyone looking for new tires that hold air on the cheap...here they are. COst more to SHIPthan they're worth in MY opinion. ANother mistake was that I replaced with OE 'size' but now wonder if cudnt have gone one size larger since all the foreign tires are infact SMALLER on BOTH diamter AND crossection. SCAM. ALSO got scammed beliveing they might be more so-called heavy duty bein 4-ply vs Carlisle 2-ply. INFLATING was nightmare, cussing entire time, but NOT stiff at all, installing with makeshift tools. On a POSTIVE... VERY IMPT: THIS seller was GOOD and at least shipped full size, NOT CRUSHED or COMPRESSED down like others... they were NOT too bad to mount, IF you know what ur doing. Otherwise its just easier to pay the few $$ and have a shop deal with, or inflate them 'old school' way [ which i dont reccommend for safety reason for amateurs.] YEs I used a ratchet strap to expand bead outward to FINALLY seat & catch. ALL i had was a water-toy, mini-compressor so that fact alone made job inflating 10x harder than actually necessary amd NIGHTMARE to say the least. Only on one week, Mid June and one-time use thus far. AND THEYR COMING OFF> I bought new mower bc I didnt even wanna drive this mower anymroe I wa sso disgusted with tires. Not even enuff tread to use it as my makeshit golf cart to get around property or get the mail [ I'm disabled] I was using 20lb vs 10psi on carlisles. BUT even IF I played with air pressures for traction tests. these treads are essentially USELESS and I'll just take it as a life lesson and another HOSING. COmpare my pics to my old, 2006 with MORE TREAD TurfPros AND the also NEW KENDAS to see what a REAL new tire is supposed to look like. CArliesnear w worn to the knubs BRAND NEW and can see from pics the littel seam ji JUST also purchased a matching FRONT set after finding the oem old front tire also flat the very next day. I DO [seem] have slight better traction than bloicked calrlises. My mower is an 09 Cubcadet 1046ltx and orig tires held up all this time until i left mower OUTSIDE under porch over past winter..which is what i believe was the orig oe tires achilles heel, abd death coup de gras' for tire life and survival. SO..comparing these new tires, left outside, vs 12 years indoors might not be fair comparrison for durabailty. SCAM #3: and MY bad..figureing 'for the price i can go wrong". YOU judge.. I'm 'just syain' ...but with PICS. $$ DOWN THE DRAIN... use the moeny to invest in TOP OF LINE stuff and FINAL KEY to prevent being HOSED" OPEN YOUR PACKAGES and cehck the stuff out BEFORE RETURN DATE EXPIRES ! ! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent on Hills!
Size: 20x8.00-8
I just purchased these to replace original carlisle Turf Savers on my mower. The original tires were always slippery on damp grass, and they never allowed me to go up hills even when the ground was dry. These new Hornets are amazing on hills! My hills are not extremely steep, but these tires have very positive traction. The old ones left mud streaks as they slid, or spun. These grip like nothing else I have ever used. I took them to a local tire shop, and in about 10 minutes, they installed them on my rims for $10 per tire. I might not have all my fingers if I had tried it myself! The Amazon seller is great too. Shipping was quick, customer service top notch. I wish I had swapped these out much earlier. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great value
Great product and great value. Have used them almost 2 months now on my Troy Bilt 42" zero turn mower. The stock tires are only 6.5" wide which left ugly tracks in the lawn after mowing. Will have to see how wet traction is with the larger contact patch (I believe smaller is better for wet traction). Packaged and shipped well. Tires were not very collapsed at all. Left in sun to soften before install. Used 2x4's and my vehicle to break the bead on the old tires. The new tires installed just fine with screw drivers/pry bars. Sizing was accurate and they handle well. Used a 2x4 and my vehicle to break the beads on my ... show more
