  • Easy set up, overall great telescope
My 5 year old is currently very enthusiastic about the moon and stars, he loves his telescope! I couldn’t be happier with this telescope! The setup was straightforward, and the included instructions made it easy to start observing right away. The optics are crystal clear, bringing the moon, planets, and distant stars into amazing detail. The mount is stable, and adjusting it is smooth and precise. Whether you’re a beginner or a more experienced stargazer, this telescope offers incredible value and performance. I’ve spent hours exploring the night sky and can’t wait for our next stargazing session!” ... show more

  • Great Starter Telescope — Light, Portable, and Surprisingly Good Optics
I compared the Hawkko directly with a more expensive Celestron AZ70, and for beginner use—especially moon watching—it holds up extremely well. The optics are remarkably similar, even when I tested it with a $200 Explore Scientific eyepiece. For telescopes in this tier, the Hawkko delivers very comparable clarity. Where it really shines is weight and portability. It’s far lighter than the Celestron—light enough to pick up with two fingers—and compact enough to fit into a small travel bag. It also uses a standard tripod mount, so you can easily swap in your own tripod if you want something sturdier. Some people might say the included tripod feels flimsy. Realistically, with telescopes like this, you’ll only be using it on a perfectly calm night anyway. Any breeze or vibration ruins the view regardless of the brand. The key is setting the right expectations: if you want more than moon viewing and “finding” basic sky objects, you’re looking at spending over $1,000—and even then, nothing you buy will look like NASA’s billion-dollar images. Bigger scopes also become large, heavy setups you’ll never want to move. For what it’s meant to be, the Hawkko is an excellent ultra-portable option. Caveats: • The front lens cap is loose. I fixed this by adding a little tape to increase the fit. • The tripod tray has holes for eyepieces. I prefer it flat since I store eyepieces in sealed containers instead of leaving them out to collect dust. • The tripod isn’t on ball bearings, so there’s some play when loosening/tightening. Because the whole setup is so light, I just adjust the angle using the legs instead. • Wasn't able to see anything using the 4mm or the 3x Barlow eye piece. These are typically meant for use on much bigger telescopes that captures more light. Overall, if you understand the limitations of small, lightweight beginner scopes, the Hawkko delivers great value and portability with surprisingly solid optics. ... show more

  • Good Starter Telescope
Easy set up, engaging activity for the 8 year old recipient. Good value for price paid. Nice, clear shots of the moon. Will buy one for another child in 2026. One star deducted for the tripod sturdiness.

  • Cool beginner telescope
This is a pretty nice beginner telescope. It is easy to set up and use, and the finder scope seems pretty accurate. It would also be a decent telescope for kids to learn on. Overall, I would definitely recommend this telescope to someone looking to familiarize themselves with a telescope while on a budget. ... show more

  • Easy to setup and use
The installation guide was clear and easy to follow. I was able to capture nice pictures of the moon with my phone and could clearly see the surface of the moon, especially using the 23mm lens. It was a great experience, and I really enjoyed observing the moon this close. I also appreciated the ability to mount my phone to take pictures as keepsakes. ... show more

  • Great telescope
I'm not an expert on telescopes but this one is the real deal for beginners, great quality, easy to transport in the included bag and perfect to get into stargazing. The included lenses are of good quality but might recommend getting extras for more zoom. Took me like 2-3 minutes to setup and about the same to store it. I definitely recommend it for getting into telescopes and the price can't be beat ... show more

  • Shaky
Everything works fine but it is hard to stabilize the system because the tripod is made of light material. It states that the tripod is stable on box but just a little wind will make it shake.
