I had no idea that Gymboree made clothes for adults too! So this dress is a part of their Christmas collection for the year 2023. Here are my thoughts about it. THE GOOD: I ordered size L for my 5'5" 165lb frame with 39" bust and 42" hip. The dress fit perfectly without any room to spare. The outer fabric holds it's shape and hides belly fats and flab. The V-neckline has a hook closure for modesty. The dress is fully lined in a matching red satin fabric everywhere except for the sleeves. All stitching and finishing is excellently done, as expected from a well known brand. The color looks exactly as shown, beautiful Christmas plaid with gold thread inclusions, shiny and festive. THE BAD: The outer fabric is incredibly stiff and very scratchy. The dress can almost stand on its own, it will certainly look like a Christmas box- present itself. Without that satin lining there's no way anyone would be able to tolerate this fabric on their skin. Also regular washing for such a dress is a no no. I'll need to send it for dry cleaning otherwise the pretty sparkly threads may be damaged, it will definitely bleed and the satin lining will be discolored. THE UGLY: for a $80 dress it doesn't have a zipper! I searched this dress everywhere and was flabbergasted to discover that there's no zipper anywhere. I was able to get into the dress because the waistline is stretchy, but on the day of Christmas celebration if you have your hair and makeup done before getting dressed be prepared to have to redo them both after you get this dress over your head! This dress needs a full zipper in the back and doesn't have it. Also because the outer fabric is made of thick polyester and the lining is made of thin polyester the dress is absolutely not breathable. It's one of those very festive beautiful but uncomfortable to wear garments that you would want to take off as soon as possible. Probably in the car on the way home. THE VERDICT: the dress isn't worth the trouble. It's beautiful on and is perfect for Christmas but comfort is more important than looks for me. 3 stars. ... show more

    • Gorgeous Holiday dress, but hear me out...

I'm a true large, leaning more toward a size 14 rather than a 12 and I would say this dress is true to size but it is not for every body type. Amazon suggested my size was a Large and I went with that recommendation and I'd say it's correct. However, there is no stretch to the fabric, only the waistline which cinches nicely without being too tight even for large body types. The rest of the dress is non stretch and is one that you would have to put on over your head and shimmy down your body. Now, on my body type (a cross between an apple and pear shape) the dress fit nicely with a little wiggling to be done. But if you are someone with large arms and an overall larger upper body, I'd say you could struggle to get this on. And if your have wide hips, you might not be able to get this on or easily sit down. Again, no stretch to this fabric so if you lean more to a size 14 and like a little more room from the waist down, you might need to size up or just skip this dress entirely. The neckline is nice and modest but does open up to a "V" and I like that they added a hook to keep it closed so your tata's don't pop open. Overall, it's a beautiful dress with a beautiful fabric that reminds me of the kind of design you would get from Ralph Lauren. The media could not be loaded. Too much fabric in weird places. Oddly proportioned. Feels like I’m wearing a sack with a belt. Not at all flattering. And the length is also a bit too long. Hits just at/below the knee. Fabric is nice. Just weird fit.

I wanted to love this so bad, I was really excited to wear this for Christmas and photos but it just is not there for my body type. I hate to fault the dress itself for it because there are really lovely parts of it but the fit is just not there. It feels stuck between two worlds, it wants to be elevated like an expensive zip dress with layers and a slip inside. While trying to appeal to a larger (and more relatable) crowd with the elastic waist and loose belt. I appreciate that the belt is not sewn into the sides of the dress so you can sort of play with where your waist hits in this dress but feels like no matter what it is frump city depending on your body type. If you are thin and very tall I could see this being a lovely dress. I am 5'10. Granted I did dream big for myself, I am typically a size 20. After losing weight I thought I would try an XXL (not 2XL, plus size sisters know the difference). And it could potentially get there but if some parts of this were looser I think it would look fine. Just the elastic and cinched waist would be great. But the area gets tight in the trouble area which is no bueno for my type of body. Again, hard to fault the dress for that but feel like if it picked an audience they could tailor it a little better to be for most bodies. Not just some. This is a pretty Christmas dress. The plaid fabric has a lovely sheen to it and it has a bright gold thread sewn into the plaid design. The dress is all bias cut: bodice, skirt and large ruffle. It has a coordinating, shiny and soft polyester lining in the bodice and the skirt. All the seams are stitched and serged. There is an elastic waist that is securely enclosed in a casing. I like that there is a hook and eye closure to keep the wrap from falling open. A wide self-belt that ties is long and is fed through fabric belt loops. The large, set-in sleeves are open(no elastic) and are comfortable.A wide ruffle is gathered at the bottom. As for sizing, I did order a size up and I’m glad I did. So Pretty! ... show more
