It works surprisingly well. I actually had a few reservations about buying it because its almost too simple, but the product is wonderful. The bag itself is durable, and hasnt experienced any wear even after hitting it extensively with the uneven ice inside. The mallet is surprisingly strong and durable for being seemingly JUST wood. I can put enough force into it to hammer ice down to either shards, or essentially a dust, and it hasnt had any wear. And the thick canvas material the bags made of absorbs any water from melting ice that didnt get poured out, and it dries fine! Its really nice, takes up literally no space whatsoever. There were a lot of products to choose from with a wide price range. Size of the bag was one of my concerns while trying to not over pay. After all, it is just a canvas bag and a wooden mallet. I’m pleased with this product. I have a home bar and the size is adequate for around 4 drinks (or 2 tall drinks) without having to fill up again. The mallet is comfortable to swing with good weight. It didn’t feel heavy but did its job. The bag seems to be well made. I’d look for a bigger bag if this was for more than 1-4 people at a time. I used to use a small hardware store hammer and a zip lock bag but the bag always tore. This set up is so nice! The hammer is a good weight and the bag is light but sturdy. I let any possible moisture dry from the bag by fitting it over the handle and sitting the hammer on its head on the counter!

I like how this product feels very strong in the hand. I originally only got this to learn how to make tiki cocktails and brambles; however, with summer coming, I will likely be using this to cool my water bottle. If you like to mix things like crystal light in your water, then the crushed ice from this goes well with a blender bottle since you can shake with the powder first to mix with water, then add crushed ice for a really cold blend. ... show more
