tl;dr: It seems like the quality control is off: weights that are "right" seem to match each other exactly, but EACH of the sets I recieved had AT LEAST ONE WEIGHT that was a little off compared to the others! I'll start by saying that I'm using these with a triple-beam balance with it's finest markings at 0.1g spacings, though I can do differential comparisons of weight to maybe an order of magnitude smaller by seeing how close to perfect balance the scale gets after exchanging the weight on the platter. I ended up getting two sets of these: The first one was obviously used already (there were fingerprints all over the weights and the case), and as I wiped those down, I noticed the the 100g weight had a large defect in it and it could not be trusted. So I ordered a replacement set. This gave me the chance to compare the weights from both sets, as well as check self-consistency by comparing combinations of weights to see if they come out the same (e.g. 10+10 = 20, et cetera). What I found: The 1g, 2g, and 5g weights were all great. They always matched eachotehr as exactly as I could measure, and when I tried combinations of them, they always worked out precisely (2+2+1 was always 1+1+2 was always 5), as far as my precision could go. The 20g weights were where I found my first problem: 3 of the 4 weights were the same, but one was a little off). The 20g weights that were all the same worked out to be the same as the two 10g weights, so once you discard the bad one, the rest seemed self consistent with the other weights. I then went to check the 50g weights. The one from the set with the defective 100g weight was quite a bit lighter than the other (and also didn't fit as snugly in the case, meaning it was noticeably smaller in diameter!) When I then put down a 10g+20g+20g weight, the "fat" 50g weight matched almost exactly, but the "skinny" one was off by maybe 50mg. In the end, I was able to determine a set of ones that all were at least self-consistent, and my needs aren't that precise anyway (I don't really have anything I need to do to better than +/-50mg) and I didn't really expect much from a $15 set anyway. However, I would NOT trust them to be accurate for calibrating a scale with 0.01g (10mg) precision without being able to validate them with properly calibrated lab equipment first! A few other things to note: - On both sets, the finish was scuffed looking; I wonder if that is from the factory or from vibrating in the case. In either case, those scuffs may affect very precise scales, which would benefit from actually paying for a good set of weights. - The tweezers worked really great for the 1g-5g weights (they were not magnetic, like in some reviews), but for the heaver weights I need to use a microfiber cloth to pull them by hand. - The 50g weight is really snug in the case. Since I was pulling with a microfiber cloth, it wasn't a big deal, but if you tried to use the tweezers it wouldn't work at all. ... show more

I was looking for a weight set to test my kitchen scale. I would have preferred oz increments but could only find the metric gram choice. This one came with the handy case which is helpful since some of them are quite small. They work well for my purpose.
