  • Great first impression and a note on mounting direction
Mounting: These tires are listed as non-directional, but I think they are bi-directional, meaning that they have a tread direction that is different if mounted forwards versus backwards, but either tread pattern can be used. Non-directional can be either uniform (tread pattern is the same front or back) or bi-directional. It appears that there are two outer lugs slanted in one direction, then one smaller outer lug almost straight. This pattern repeats with a lagging copy on the opposite side of the tire. The big center lugs appear to slant in the same direction as the two outer lugs. See photo. Based on several decades of off-roading, I am guessing this setup allows you to mount the Big Horns specifically for different conditions. If you have softer conditions, like mud, then the two outer lugs should slant towards the rear of the machine so the material is extruded out of the tire like a mud tire (which has lugs slanting out and to the rear). If you ride in sand, the opposite direction would cause the sand to pack under the tire and provide some lift and less digging. Rocks and hard surfaces probably don't care which way you mount them. For snow I am not sure which is better, but will try them different ways come winter. To get the tires mounted in the same direction, I put the white letters out on one side and black letters out on the other - while this is not the most aesthetically pleasing, I am interested more in the performance and do not want different tread patterns on opposite sides of the quad. Besides, you can only view one side at a time, so there really is no beauty problem here. And I can change the tread direction easily by swapping the tires from one side to the other - so if it turns out I need something different (say for snow or sand) its a quick fix. I have not ridden them enough to give a critical review, but here are a few first impressions: The ride is very smooth on the road. They are a bit heavy and I felt it in the start up and at crawl speed, needing a little extra throttle then with my prior tires (mudlite XLs), but once rolling they had excellent stability and handling and throttle response was not an issue. They grab onto logs and roll up and over them better then any tire I have tried I ran through a muddy creek bed with no problem - felt as good as the mudlite XLs (which had great mud traction for an AT tread). I ran them down a gnarly rocky ravine and up some step rocky climbs and had no instability issues. They took some of the roughness out of the rocky trails compared to the prior tires. There isn't much mud here now, cause its hot/dry season, so will need to see how they do on off camber slippery slopes (later this year), which I have heard may be a problem. Hope getting the mounting direction correct on both sides will alleviate that concern. Purchased these on Amazon from ATV outfitters and they arrived in a few days. The tires have recent manufacturing dates on them, so they were brand new. Update 2/1/17: I really like these tires. These have no leaks after 7 months. It's nice not to be plugging and filling ATV tires constantly. Rock traction is amazing - a real confidence builder over big rocks. Very good in mud and snow. No significant off camber sliding. Compared to a mud lite XL tire, these dig less so they are a little weaker on soft steep terrain. They seem to float over mud and snow. The only notable issue is weight, but that is from 6 good plies - what makes them tuff. My prior XL's had weak sidewalls and delaminated after 2000 miles over rocky trails. Definitely worth the money. ... show more

  • Updating my review, very happy with these tires now, no more flats and fantastic traction!
Haven't had any more flats and found the traction in all situations to be superb. My son was riding the quad with these tires and I was riding a quad with brand new stock tires with the SAR team when we hit about 18 to 20 inch deep snow on the trail. Some of the other members of the SAR team had quite a bit of trouble and had to have help getting through using four wheel drive with used stock tires. My son got through without any trouble with these tires using 2 wheel drive. After he got through, I had to use 4 wheel drive with the front diff lock on in order to get through with brand new stock tires. I am really happy with these tires now and will consider purchasing them again. I purchased these because in my work with Search and Rescue, we get into a lot of rocks and I wanted a good rock tire. So far I've been out twice since I put them on and each time have ended up with a flat tire. Never had a flat with the stock tires. Maybe I've just been unlucky but I must say I am dissappointed. I will say that the almost 1 inch high lugs do provide great traction which makes them much better than the stock tires. I do carry a flat repair kit and compressor at all times so I'm covered, but I hate to have to use them. Hopefully my luck will get better and I'll be happier with them in the future. ... show more

  • The tires have great gipping power
The tires have great gipping power. They enable me to go places that I could not go with the original Polaris tires that came on my RZR. I would recommend them to anyone who is purchasing tires for an ATV or UTV.

  • This tire was recommended to me by a close friend who has run ...
This tire was recommended to me by a close friend who has run these on his BRP Renegade for several years. I currently run a Polaris Sportsman 570 and the performance, handling, and improvement in the general ride over the stock tires is awesome. While I have lost a few mph in top speed due to these tires being much heavier than the original tires the difference in control on hills, rock, sand, soft terrain, or any other surface I have found myself on more than makes up the difference. I would highly recommend these to anyone with a similar quad that has enough power to handle them. ... show more

  • Tough tires
My second set of Bighorns. I have 7000 miles on the first set and fully expect the same on the second set. Well worth the money.
