  • Solid ramps for small DIY jobs, good clearance for low cars
Overall, I'm perfectly happy with these ramps. I picked them up to do oil changes and inspections underneath our cars. For this sort of work I prefer the idea of ramps than jack stands as our parking spot is a little uneven, and there's effectively zero chance of the car coming down off the ramps than using stands on a surface that isn't level. Yes, it's pretty unlikely anything would happen with stands, but I'm more paranoid than I used to be about stuff (I guess it's the two kids that did that). I chose the heaver-duty set of the two because at the time it was the same than their little siblings (11909, 12,000lbs) at the time I ordered. I had the good fortune to buy at one of the product's historical low prices, which it has hit 3 times in the past year or so. That price got them their 5th star; they've since gone up $10, at which this is probably a 4-star product. These aren't small ramps by any means, but their size is lessened by the fact that they're stackable. That takes the total volume needed for the pair down to perhaps 20% more than a single ramp, which is a boon for storage. This seems to be Rhingear's ethos; their chocks do the same thing, which is also very much appreciated. The walls of the ramps have holes that can be used to strap the pair together, making handling the pair as a single unit even easier. Their length does mean that I can get my wife's car up on it. Her 2006 Scion xB is a great little car, but is blessed/cursed by a pretty low front skirt that starts a decent distance ahead of the front wheels, which results in horrible clearance. I had borrowed a set of ramps from a friend (not sure which manufacturer/model) with a steeper incline that were unusable for her car. As it stands, with these I literally only had a few millimetres of clearance getting onto the ramps. I was honestly wondering if I was going to have to put a bunch more pressure in her tyres temporarily to raise the car a little further, but it did clear. Getting the car up on the ramps was pretty simple, and there's a good-sized chock at the end of the ramp to let you know you should stop. They're more than wide enough for her tyres (185mm). These lifted the car enough that I could easily get underneath. I'm somewhat barrel-chested (48"), and I was able to get well under the car head-first to take a look at her exhaust without feeling cramped. It's easily more than enough of a lift to get at the drain plug and oil filter at the front of the car. Overall, I probably couldn't be happier. I wouldn't have even considered them at their 2012 pricing, but they've since dropped considerably and are well worth the price I paid. ... show more

  • The better Ramps on the market
I must say that I am very disappointed that higher ramps are not manufactured in general, but I can see where safety concerns could be an issue once the 10 inch height is passed. The Rhino ramps worked very well for me, I have 3 vehicles which are 2 SUVs and a AWD sports car and I will say that i was discouraged after reading some of the reviews on this page, but decided to take the chance anyway and I am happy that I did. I will agree that when the ramps first arrived, they appeared to be plastic wedges in which a kid would jump his/her radio controlled car off of, but I took a look at the design and concept of their build and constuction and decided to use with my 8,500 pound SUV and it worked as advertised. Note, I do believe in safety and braced my jackstands under the frame but this is common sense and a well invested 2 extra minutes to mount! From the previous reviews, I read that the plastic makes cracking noises, I did notice a flexing noise when I was not on a totally flat surface, but on flat ground heard no noise. I also read reviews on the ramps popping forward, I did notice some movement, but where possible, if you have the ability to put your vehicle in 4 wheel drive mode, this helps in grabbing and a even distribution of force to push the vehicle up the ramps and for those who do not, I found parking the car and wedging the ramps between the tires and pavement helps a great deal, then you can slowly drive up the ramps. One observation that I have noticed is that in colder weather the ramps, because they are essentially plastic, get very stiff and are not as flexible and forgiving if you are not on flat pavement or your tires are not 100% centered on the ramp, here is where you could have issues as described by the other reviewers. By cold weather, I mean below 40 degrees and watchout for the ice below 32. Even though they do not look like much, I do think that this is a good product, low theft as they look like a gardening product that can be left out in your backyard for years as they will not rust either... Good luck all and follow the instructions, basically doing stupid things will yeild stupid results!!! ... show more

  • Better than steel
I rarely leave reviews but I am seriously impressed by this product, even more impressed by Amazons service. (More about that later) These ramps are plastic, and are light and easy to move around. They are wide and I guess unless you have a super mega sports car they will suite any tyre size. I suspect if your car is very low you may struggle, a bit. There are a few sites with a slight modification, where you place a piece of wood in front of the ramp slightly raising the car. (I'll leave you to Google that) That vast majority of vehicles I come across in my business are front wheel drive, and I suspect there will be no problems with them moving about. (It may be different for rear wheel drive) Once my van was up on the ramps, everything looked secure and I was happy to be underneath. They could be a little higher, but there is enough room to get underneath and If I was changing oil, etc, there'd be plenty of room. Amazons delivery times. I ordered this product on the US site on October 7th at 17:58 (UK time) and it arrived at my home in the UK on October 9th at 14:18. So within 2 days! I can't believe how fast this delivery was. I sometimes can't get things delivered from UK sites in that time. I didn't pay any extra for the express delivery, and I suspect it wouldn't be any quicker than that. ... show more
