  • Great co-op game
Flashback Lucy is a cooperative storytelling game skillfully fusing deduction, memory, and strategy. It offers a dystopian world in which players take on the role of Lucy, a young woman who has lost her memories. Throughout the game, players work together to help Lucy recover her past by solving puzzles and unlocking different memories-all while navigating the challenges presented by the game. There is one quirky "memory system" in this game: every player has to input his piece of the puzzle to form the big picture, so to say, while the story unfolds as you progress. The innovative mechanics are combined with beautiful, atmospheric artwork that makes this experience full-immersive, keeping players invested both in the puzzles and Lucy's personal journey. With multiple storylines and paths to follow, Flashback Lucy has great replay value, and it's a great choice for those into cooperative play and rich storytelling. ... show more

  • Feels like an interactive comic book, gorgeous art, enjoyable story
I assumed this would be in line with a lot of the escape room style games, such as Unlock, Exit, etc. However, this really plays out more like an interactive comic book - you are trying to answer some relatively obvious questions and figure out what happened, but the system guides you through revealing all the cards and there's not much of a "game" to it. You're really just along for the ride, watching the story unfold. That said, this was a very enjoyable activity and I had a good time playing through this solo. I could see doing this with 2-3 people, but there's not really enough here to warrant a large group. Each of the 4 chapters took about 20-30 minutes, so I finished the whole thing in an evening. There's nothing to really replay once you know the story, but it can be reset for someone else to enjoy. Component quality was excellent, and the comic-style visuals were very well done. The overall narrative was enjoyable - not super deep, but interesting enough to keep me engaged. They had some very clever ways of bringing the system to life a bit - adding cards to the album, seeing each scene from a different character's perspective, covering sections with a new card to 'animate' something new happening. The rules were pretty straightforward and getting started was quick and simple. Overall, I liked this as a single play and will pass it on to someone else to enjoy. Would be curious to see any others in this series if it continues. ... show more

  • Fun but You can only play it once
Neat game, my 15 year old enjoyed it but once it’s been played you can never play it again. The ending doesn’t change, there’s no alternative ending. We played and now it’ll sit and never be touched again. Even if we played with someone new we’d know the secrets and it would never be enjoyable again. ... show more

  • Fun game similar to Unlock! Kids with great comic artwork
I didn't take pictures of the actual cards or of the game in play, as it would ruin some of the experience for you (since this unfolds like a story, and there are things you're supposed to discover along the way). The closest thing that I've played that this is similar to is Unlock! Kids (which my kids have loved). In Unlock! Kids, you have a single deck of cards (along with some cardboard pieces) and as you find numbers on the revealed cards, then you reveal that numbered card as well. Same if you find a symbol on the cards (you look the symbol up in the key and then reveal the corresponding card). In Flashback Lucy, it's progressing more like a comic (which I find really engaging). A revealed card may indicate numbers (in which case you reveal those cards), or you may discover symbols (in which case you reveal the corresponding mini card). Similar to Unlock! Kids, these is really a single-play experience. Once you've played it, you'll want to pass it along to a friend to play with their kids. What isn't clear from the listing is that there are actually four distinct "visions" (they also use the term "Chapter" interchangeably) to play through, so you do get some good value out of it. From a value perspective though, Unlock! Kids gives you eight scenarios to play through for not much more money. In Unlock! Kids, you get a higher score by finding card numbers that are more obscurely hidden on the revealed cards. In Flashback Lucy, you get a higher score by being observant enough during the Vision to be able to answer questions successfully at the end of the Chapter. I love the artwork in this game. They've done a great job making it really consistent in order to tell some engaging stories. It's fun too. They recommend 8+ for the game. I think you can actually go slightly younger, depending on how observant and focused the kiddo is. I also appreciate the eco-friendly packaging. Aside from the thin plastic wrap around the box itself, everything else was paper or cardboard (including the paper to wrap the four individual Vision decks). Overall, I think this is a solid pick. I'm deducting one star though as the description doesn't really make it clear enough for all folks that this is ultimately a one-time playthrough (once you've done all the Chapters/Visions), it's not a boardgame that you'll be able to play over and over again. ... show more
