  • It's just an Amazon delivery device, but it's a really good Amazon delivery device
People who complain about the Amazon Fire are really just complaining that it's not a traditional tablet. They wanted an iPad or a Galaxy Tab, but didn't have the money or were too cheap to get one and for upset when they realized what they'd bought. If you understand what the Fire is, an Amazon digital content delivery device with some tablet capabilities, you'll be thrilled with what it can do. If you're trying to find a cheap version of a Samsung or Apple tablet, keep looking because that is not what this is and you'll just be disappointed. ... show more

  • Brand New Device Was Defective - Replacing it a hassle
The kindle itself was nice enough. We liked it. Kids liked it. But it had this annoying feature of going into sleep mode and then being unable to turn back on until it was plugged into the wall charger. This happened right out of the box. We put in an SD card a week later and the issue was even worse. Going into the 'cannot turn on mode without plugging into the wall' at least 2-3 times/day. Not a very portable device. Was only 2 weeks old and was still available for a return/replacement. Customer service was helpful, replacement device on the way. What they failed to say is that the Brand New Device that we ordered was to be replaced with a Refurbished one. I wouldn't normally care, but we paid for a Brand New Device. Any one who buys refurbished devices know they are generally quite a bit cheaper . . . I contacted customer service and spent over an hour with three different service representatives just to explain how a physical store would give you a brand new device if the original is defective. If I am to settle for a refurbished one, then give me a credit. They refused. They also refused to let me return everything because "nothing was wrong" with the replacement. The replacement was a refurbished device. I ordered a brand new one. Umm . .. something is wrong . . . I finally talked to a service rep who allowed me to return it because it wasn't what was expected/originally ordered. If you have problems, suggest returning it for a full refund if you order brand new and then just re-order. Don't bother with this craziness. Seriously, you order a brand new device, pay for a brand new device and they end up with a defective one and then they expect you to be happy with a refurbished one when you paid the full price for a brand new one? ... show more

  • Messed with the charging port and on button.
This is my third or fourth kindle/fire tablet. This newest model seems fine, but I'm seriously miffed that they changed where the on/off button is, so I can't use my old case. And it definitely needs a case, it's very light and thin. They also switched from the mini USB B to the mini USB C charger, so now I can't use any of the 6 chargers I have, including the extra long ones that I used to charge it while I read in bed. Out of princjple, I will not be buying the replacement case or chargers on Amazon! The product would have gotten more stars, but I'm really mad. ... show more

  • Won't hold a wi-fi connection-it is now a slim paperweight
After four months, my kindle will not connect to and hold a wi-fi connection. I have read countless reviews by people who have the same issue- and not just with this 10th gen model; no, this issue is wide-spread and has been consistent through the last several models. When I called customer service today for help, my first attempt was met by a person whose English was so broken that I could not understand her, and we spent 5 minutes just trying to get on the same page- she couldn't understand me, and I couldn't understand her. I hung up and tried again. The second person was more clear, which is good because I was able to hear the lies. He was unable to answer a very simple question: What is the warranty for a kindle? He originally said 7-8 months, nothing concrete. Then I asked him to tell me how old my kindle is. He said 4 months. When he figured out my point, he said that mine was only 4 months because the warranty changes by device. A 7 month warranty? A 4 month warranty? Really? Mmk. Let's hope your warranty is longer than mine. After that, I proceeded to ask how to get the wi-fi working again. Apparently factory reset is the only way. I asked repeatedly if this would work, if there was anything else we could try first-because if I reset it, I have to be able to connect to wifi to set the device back up. Do it, he said. It will correct the issue, he said. It did not fix the issue. I now have a kindle that is 4 months old, and it is useless. I have had a kindle since they first became a thing- ya know, since when dinosaurs roamed the earth-and I have had several different models; and I can say with absolute authority, that every time they release a new model the quality is a touch worse than the one that came before. I still have a third gen sitting on my nightstand. It has had not one single issue. It still doesn't; I bought new to upgrade to a bigger screen; not because it stopped functioning. Bottom line: This product is cr@p, Amazon does not stand behind their products, and they have reps who are either willfully stupid or blatant liars-take your pick. Either way, buyer beware. Sincerely, A long-time kindle user and once fan ... show more
