Bought this for my baby girl’s reading area. Bought storage bins separately and I use it to store some of her toys, diapers, and travel bags. I liked that it came with the tools to secure it to the wall. Reason for the four stars is due to being a little wobbly/not sturdy even after making sure all screws were nice and tight and also due to having a few scratches on some of the panels. This shelf is perfect for the 13x13 inch Amazon brand fabric bins. I'm a 58 year old female and put it together myself. Be aware that the boxed shelf is extremely heavy so plan to drag the box into the room before putting it together if you are doing so alone.

    • Middle Pegs are Fragile

As a cost cutting measure i'm sure, they use longer wooden pegs that go through the middle board and into the peg hole of the shelf on either side of the middle. problem is these pegs are FRAGILE! They have almost no structural integrity. I busted 3 of these things putting it together and they only give you one spare. I had to use the shorter ones carefully as spares which isn't ideal. It's a bit wobbly too usually these cheap shelving units come with a backing board you nail all around which gives it some rigidness. This is open so it comes with 4 corner angle brackets which does stiffen it up some really the best that could be done, but it's not as rigid as a full backing would provide. Overall though it looks alright but for the money there's really some questionable quality concerns with this shelf but it'll work for my purposes. I would not buy another one though. ... show more

I anticipated using this shelving/bookcase in my office for storing files in decorative file boxes. After assembling one of the 2 I ordered I can see this product is not suitable for that use. In fact, I don't know what a person could use this for other than a room divider type application with some knick knacks or small plants on the shelves. It is certainly not sturdy enough for any other use. I'll start with the sides, which form most of the support. They are predrilled in the proper locations for spacing the shelves and that part of the equation was not too bad. Holes did line up pretty well. The issue is the material itself. The shelves have "solid" rim of cheap wide grained low density particle board around the perimeter and the inner area of the "board" ...or what should be a board, is hollow. They are approximately 3/4" thick. The center divider is a little less that 1/2" thick and comes drilled for the dowels holding the shelves, again, in pretty much the correct location for the shelves to line up. This piece is solid material at least. The main issue is the shelves. These are also predrilled for the wooden dowels. There is simply not enough material thickness to offer any strength with a 1/4" hole drilled into the side of material that measures about 10mm. Some of the holes were not exactly centered an literally the only thing that offered some support for the dowel was the vinyl covering over the low density particle board. After assembly it was readily apparent that the unit was wobbly and very shaky. Only 2 screws top and bottom on each side hold the sides to the shelves. There is nothing except the dowel securing the shelves to the sides and given the lack of material in the shelf the dowels split 2 of the shelves and they are unusable. I would not recommend this unit for any purpose basically. After assembling this in the garage I don't think it would survive being carried into the house.
