  • Tight arbor
Cutter worked great but the R8 arbor was tight in the mill when I come to take it out so I would throw a bit of anti-seize on it before putting it in I have a power drawbar and had a heck of a time getting it to back off

  • Profile Incorrect
Cons: The gear cutters have the wrong profiles. Some fit the profile somewhat better than others, but ALL of them have terrible profiles for their tooth range. The worst in my set is cutter #2 (Z14-16). Attached is an image showing a microscope capture of the actual #2 cutter I received overlaid on top of the correct gear profile generated in CAD. You can see how terrible the profile is, leaving only a sliver of material for the OD of the gear. I can confirm this is the case, because I actually did a test run cutting gears with these cutters and the resulting gear was severely thin. All of the other cutters are almost just as bad; each have their own problems. Some don't cut the root deep enough, some are lopsided. BEWARE these cutters. The arbor is good, but the cutters are absolutely horrid. Pros: The spindle fits very well and has little (if any) runout. The cutters are sharp and cut well. ... show more

  • Cutter was 20 PA not 14.5 PA (mislabeled)
I cut 3 gears and invested at least 12 hours of my time. I was making a gear for my 1931 South bend which is supposed to be 16 DP and 14.5 PA. I now have one gear that works but not correctly (very noisy). After many hours of research I talked to a gear expert that told me how to identify the gear cutters using specific drill diameters to check the involute curve on the cutter. It matched a 20 PA not a 14.5! Good thing I'm retired. If I was running a business I would have lost a lot of money on this misadventure. Also the arbor run out was .0005 (ok) but the cutter had .003 run out (not ideal). ... show more
