  • AMAZING - Excellent quality for an affordable price
Tl;dr Amazing cover, binding, and paper quality for a great price. I personally think this outshines the more expensive, more ranted about moleskine and leuchtturm1917 journals/notebooks. Long Story: I recently decided to get back into bullet journal and commit to it, so I though long and hard about the things that bothered me when I last tried to bullet journal. Amongst other factors like time/availability, I identified 3 journal-related issues: 1) Price - I simply cannot afford to drop 20 dollars on every notebook/journal I buy 2) Paper quality - nothing annoys me more that seeing what I wrote on the previous page show through to my current page. A more minor thing is ink bleeding. 3) Cover and binder quality - I hate it when the cover flakes and when the cover binding detaches/unglues from the papers. I also hate it when the marker string unglues and becomes useless. So this is how this notebook/journal ranked in those 3 categories. 1) It was less than 12 dollars. Nothing else to say. Almost half the price of some of the other journals out there. 2) The paper colour was pleasing to me - not too white and not too yellow. The weight was nice without being too thick. There was minimal to no bleeding or showing through. MAJOR game changer. I used to use the moleskine dotted notebooks and I was so tired of getting the show through. I've used watercolour paints in this journal, and while it didn't make the paper happy (well, there's a reason for why there's paper made especially for watercolour), when it dried, there was no show through O_O. 3) TMI, but my hands sweat a lot, so that results in many of the covers becoming deformed in some way - the soft covers warp and distort, low quality cover crumble and flake, etc. This one is still going strong. I also take my journal every where - throw it in the my purse, my backpacks, to work, to hikes, to restaurants, in trains, etc. So far, there is no sign of wear and tear. No scratches, no detaching of the binding, no detaching of the marker ribbon thing. The other day I spilled a bit of paint on it and used a anti-bacterial wipe and the cover looked just as good - no discoloration, etc. All in all, I think the quality of this notebook has definitely made me more encouraged and motivated to continue bullet journalling. 11/10 would recommend and buy again! ... show more

  • Perfect!
I'm very happy with this product. I've had my eye on it for a while, especially since I wanted to try out the dot matrix pattern instead of gridlines. I'm glad I decided to forgo the more expensive Moleskine & Leuchtturm notebooks. For one, the paper is heavier, which means my Muji pens don't bleed through. It is a nice thickness especially for bullet journalers. And in person, it looks very much like the more expensive brands. Sturdy, nice binding, and I like the ribbon bookmark and back pocket. ... show more

  • I Started My First Bullet Journal
I have had this notebook for 1 whole week. Within that time, I have gotten some good use out of it. I open it up several times a day to the same page without noticing the pages popping out or tearing. I have ripped out pages. Rather than tearing out the two pieces that are connected together, I take some craft tape/washi tape and put a long strip down the middle of those two pages along the rib. It works, and it adds some character and flare. PAPER QUALITY: I don't have too many issues with pens and markers bleeding. BUT, I try not to pass over the same area with my pen too many times. Don't get me wrong, there is bleeding but it's not bad enough to where it bothers me. Overall I like the paper. When writing the ink of my pens do not bleed outwards like more fibrous paper can do. I have not had any smudging issues either. NOTEBOOK QUALITY: It is sturdy. Over the week I have been throwing it around a lot, literally throwing it in the air onto the bed or carpeted floor. I have packed it in my backpack and purse. So far no dents or rips to the exterior. When opening the notebook up to different sections, I like how you can almost completely flatten out the notebook without having a huge mountain or valley (I hope you get what I mean). I would recommend this notebook to anyone that is starting out journalling, or just wants a nice sturdy notebook for random notes, sketches, etc... After reading reviews of this notebook and the more expensive counter part, the concerns, likes and dislikes were all the same. That tells me that this is the same if not better quality at a better price. I will continue to use this brand notebook until it gets too expensive (it has already rose $2 in price since I purchased it a week ago). The photos I have attached are the front and backs of some of my pages, so you can see the quality of the paper. The types of pens I use are listed as well. I haven't listed them all, but those so far are my favorites. Especially the ones with the hearts by them. Other than those listed I have also used the Pilot G5 and V5 in both black and blue. ... show more

  • Holy Grail of Bullet Journals
This is hands-down the best notebook for bullet journaling. I tried the Leuchtturm but the pages were too thin (80gsm) and there was excessive ghosting and bleed through with even ballpoint pens. Then I tried the Rhodia Webnotebook ("webby") and the Clairefontaine pages, while nice (90gsm), were an intense ivory color that bothered me and interfered with my color coordinating system: highlighters and Staedtler triplus fineliners. Enter the Essentials notebook, and it is PERFECT. It's pages are 100gsm, the binding lays flat, there's a ribbon and an envelope in the back... It's the holy grail of bullet journal notebooks! (and I'm very picky about my paper ;)). ... show more
