  • A Bargain without sacrifice of quality!
I purchased this in April 2014, so I've been using it for over a year. I bought it to replace my Braun SE 7181 WD Silk Epil 7 Epilator Xpressive Pro, Orange/Copper which cost only $79 and change at the time. It is now $115. I loved the Braun epilator, but it was no longer holding much of a charge. Unlike this unit the Braun cannot be used with the charger plugged in. I paid $95 for the Emjoi. It is only $59 now! Though I still like the Braun a little bit more than the Emjoi because it required less time to use as it is a more efficient epilator I recommend this one. It is worth a little extra time to spend slightly more than half the cost of the Braun. Also the fact that it can be used with the charger plugged in is a great advantage. I suspect that the Braun did not allow use while plugged in because it was a wet/dry product. In other words you could use it while bathing. I never found this to be advantageous. Quite the opposite. I find it is much more efficient to use while your skin is dry. Since it takes time to wait for a recharge if it dies half way through I prefer the Emjoi's ability to be used while plugged in. I do no find it painful to epilate with either product, but some people do. When I purchased the Braun I had read a number of reviews that had said it would be very painful. That's true of all the epilators I researched. Perhaps I just have a higher than normal threshold for pain. I've been told that by doctors after all, but I do not find epilating painful. Keep your skin taut while using any epilator, especially when doing your underarms, to avoid catching skin. Catching skin IS painful, for anyone. However, if you are careful this will not be a problem. At the current price this product is a fantastic bargain! I hate shaving. I've been waxed and tried waxing myself. Waxing is just too messy. Even having it done professionally leaves some wax on the skin where they miss during clean up. I've used the epilator everywhere. It is much more efficient. If you pay to be waxed, this will pay for itself in a use or two. You can still get your upper lip waxed as that is not very expensive and this epilator is not meant for facial use. I still use it for my upper lip, but I do not recommend it. It is quite easy to get your actual lip caught. I don't have much hair there. In fact I didn't have any visible hair on my upper lip until I was approaching 40. Now I have a little bit and have become adept enough with the Emjoi to catch it all without injuring myself, but it's not easy so consider yourself warned! For all places below the neck I highly recommend the Emjoi. It is more than worth the price and considerably cheaper than equivalent products. Buy one before the price goes back up, and still consider it even if it the price does increase. It is a worthy product after all. ... show more

  • It can't do its job, by design. Choose another brand, even if you prefer corded
I bought this because my other epilator is battery-operated, and I never have enough juice to finish epilating everything without having to wait for it to recharge several times. After getting this epilator, I plugged it in, smiled, and thought to myself, "THIS time I can get through all my hair in just one session!" My excitement ended the minute I put this thing on my skin. To my great disappointment, this epilator absolutely failed to tweeze hairs effectively. I had to run over the same area several times to clear out just 50% of the hair, something my other epilator can do in one pass with ease! I read the manual. Perhaps I was doing something wrong? Nope. The manual recommended short strokes and holding it perpendicularly to the skin, which is what I always do. The tiny motor inside lacks the torque to drive 72 tweezers and it keeps grinding any time I apply even the slightest force to touch the epilator to my skin. To make matters worse, the build quality is terrible. The plastic housing of the tweezer heads is made of cheap polypropylene that easily warps/doesn't mate well with the assembly, and further prevents proper operation. The two tweezer drums also revolve in opposite directions! This means that only half of the tweezers will effectively be in use at any given time, which makes the other 36 tweezers completely useless! Finally, the tweezers themselves don't mechanically open and close via internal levers like more modern products; they are pinched at the front of the epilator head, meaning they do not effectively grab the hairs at the point of contact and have a primitive, lazy design. Don't waste your money. As frustratingly bad as cordless epilator battery life can be, the better ones are just leagues better than this. They actually work, for starters. This product, on the other hand, was designed by people with zero engineering wit. ... show more

  • Nice & Sturdy Product!!!
I have had 2 Panasonic epilators, the first I "misplaced" had a cord and worked pretty well. The second was a cordless wet/dry rechargeable with electric shaver attachment and cost about $60. I never used it in shower cuz despite being able to, I know that using in water lowers life the span. The epilator attachment recently stopped working so I did a lot of research before purchasing the Emjoi. It arrived within 6 days of placing order. Packaged very nicely, has cover that fits over tweezer wheels, a really nice pouch for storage, came with a small, flat, round loofa, a small brush for cleaning out hairs and a sturdy/long power cord. Came charged right out of the box but only lasted a couple of minutes. Not unusual. I charged it up and it works very well. Less pain than epilators with less tweezers. Sturdy and attractive product. It can also be used with or without the power cord. The last cordless one could only be used when the power cord was disconnected. Only drawbacks are 1) the head of epilator is very wide meaning the white areas on either side of the tweezer wheels add width so it's a little difficult getting into tight/rounded areas. 2) the tweezer wheels don't pivot. 3) it's louder than the other ones but I look at it like the different between the engine of a Honda versus the engine of a Mustang, more power can sometimes result in more noise. Other than those 3 issues it's a great product thus far. I would recommend the Emjoi especially for teens or people with more sensitive skin. I have been using this method of hair removal for years so the pain is very minimal for me except for on the knees and thighs, those areas continue to be sensitive as they have always been. Five stars for overall delivery, packaging and the addition of a cleaning brush and the storage pouch as well as less pain when using! ... show more
