I have been buying this shoe every year for the past five or six years. At this point, my family recognizes them and would know exactly what they look like if I asked. It has honestly become my signature look. I absolutely love them. The design is perfect with the white bottom, black leather, shiny lace hoops, and waxed laces. Closer to the one year mark, after wearing them regularly, the black leather starts to show wear and the shoes begin to look used. That is usually when I order a new pair, but I never throw out the old ones. I keep them as my do anything shoes. If I need to wash the car or go to the park, I wear the older pair since I do not worry about getting them dirty. The newest pair is reserved for going out or wearing to the office. I usually retire a pair completely after about two years. For me, they are durable enough to last a year or more depending on how hard I use them. The white part tends to discolor sooner than I would like, but I included pictures to show what that looks like. Some marks are just on the surface and can be cleaned off. This is the only reason I would like to rate them a 4.5 stars. These are the only shoes I wear because they are extremely comfortable. They are the only pair I have found that does not make the bottom of my feet hurt when standing for long periods. One thing to note is they do squeak on tile or other hard floors, probably because the grip is so strong. I really hope these never get discontinued. I wore these to travel for a week through Europe. They were perfect! I broke them in the week before, and once broken in they’re very comfortable and flexible. They’re easy to clean, durable, and high quality. Worth the purchase! I got lots of compliments on the shoes. I've been wearing these shoes for over three months now. I felt I needed to hold off on the review until I really knew what type of shoes these were. First and foremost, these shoes look good. I usually don't buy leather shoes, but I really liked how these look. That was one factor in deciding whether or not I wanted to purchase them. Another factor was how comfortable they were. Obviously, I couldn't gauge that by just looking at them. After wearing them for over three months, I can say they're pretty comfortable. They provide solid support with the stock insoles and I expect them to last quite a while longer. A little bit of a bonus, perhaps, is that these shoes have not gotten stinky yet. I don't know if I have less foot odor compared to other people, but when I stick my nose in my shoes I don't smell any bad odors, just leather. The laces are of high quality as well. I don't expect to be replacing them anytime soon. My favorite part of these shoes are the treads. They look really cool, and they don't hold onto much dirt. They still look as if they haven't been worn. However, when walking on polished floors, you will hear a noticeable squeak. Kind of like it just rained out, except all the time. Because these are leather, you may need to apply some leather conditioner after a year or so, depending on how the leather holds up. I expect I probably won't need to do that for a while yet. Good fit. I usually wear 13, was a little concerned that the US size 13-13.5 would be too big. But it fits really good, similar to my last pair of Ecco shoes. I'm an avid walker, and although I didn't purchase these as walking shoes, every shoe I own, even dress shoes, have to be comfortable and durable enough to endure walking all day if necessary. I wouldn't take these on a trail, but I will walk a lot in them. They'll need a short break-in period, but so far, they're very comfortable. I purchased these in black, and I've already put another color/finish on my wish list for my next pair of brown shoes. ... show more

    • The quality of Ecco shoes has declined markedly

I have been wearing Ecco footwear for nearly 3 decades, sandals, shoes, boots, and sneakers. The qualities that appealed to me in Ecco shoes were the caliber of the materials, the attention to detail, the quality and sturdiness of construction, and that the shoes were comfortable to wear right out of the box. Over the years, there had been some decline in quality in what is sometimes called crapification, the slow decline in the quality of an initially great product due to increasing costs of materials, competition from similar products, increasing profit margins, etc. etc. Even so, the decline in the quality of these Ecco sneakers compared to my last pair was shocking: low quality leather, limited stitching, especially double-stitching, and inadequate padding. There was no reinforcement of key areas of the shoe compared to my last pair (toe, arch, and heel). The shoes are uncomfortable to wear, rubbing at the back due to inadequate collar padding, and you can feel the pattern of the lugs in the sole through the insole. I’ve worn the shoes twice, and some of the stitching is coming undone already. So, what we have here is a mediocre shoe at a premium price. Sadly, this will be my last pair of Ecco’s. ... show more
