As a lifelong Dragon Ball Z fan who spent countless hours button-mashing through the Tenkaichi series on the PlayStation 2, Dragon Ball Z: Sparking Zero for Xbox Series X hit me like a Spirit Bomb of pure joy. It's like they cracked open Shenron's wish vault and brought my childhood memories to life—except this time, it's in stunning 4K and with a framerate smoother than Trunks' swordplay. The gameplay is pure chaotic bliss. If you ever dreamed of recreating those epic battles from the show but with the added flair of accidentally flying into a mountain because your thumbs can't keep up, this game has you covered. The arenas are MASSIVE, and the destructible environments? Chef's kiss. There’s nothing more satisfying than blasting someone through five cliffs just because you can. The roster? It's STACKED. It's like the developers said, "You know what? Let’s just throw EVERYONE in." I’m pretty sure I unlocked Farmer with a Shotgun at some point (okay, maybe not, but it feels like it). Every punch, ki blast, and power-up screams authenticity while giving you just enough wiggle room to spam those overpowered specials—cough, Super Spirit Bomb, cough. And the nostalgia? Oh man, the nostalgia. Playing this brought me back to the PS2 days when my friends and I would yell at each other about who got to play as SSJ4 Goku while our controllers tangled in a spaghetti mess. Sparking Zero somehow managed to sprinkle in that same chaotic couch co-op vibe but with modern polish. This is a Super Saiyan-level experience from start to finish. DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO is a solid game, especially for fans of the Dragon Ball franchise who are looking for fast-paced, action-packed combat. The gameplay is smooth, the graphics are crisp, and the roster of characters is impressive. It's fun to jump in and unleash all your favorite moves, from Kamehameha to Final Flash, and the overall fighting mechanics feel great. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the series, the game offers a satisfying experience in terms of gameplay. However, where Sparking! ZERO falls short is in its story. Compared to games like the Dragon Ball Xenoverse series, which manage to weave interesting narratives with engaging character development and time-travel twists, Sparking! ZERO feels rather flat and uninspired. The story mode here is pretty basic and doesn’t provide the same level of immersion. There's no deep lore or intriguing plot to really pull you in. It feels more like a string of disconnected battles with minimal narrative drive. While the combat is fun, I was hoping for a richer, more engaging story to keep me invested between fights.
