Description

The 2976 Chelsea boot has all the toughness, fit and ease of use as its Victorian predecessors plus killer style. It serves up all the signature Doc's details like iconic stitching, grooved sides and heel-loops. Built to last, this unisex boot is forged using one of the finest methods of construction: utilizing a Goodyear welt and heat-sealing it to the sole. The 2976 is made with highly durable leather and sits on an AirWair sole, which is oil and fat resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance. Use Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam to protect the leather and keep your boots clean, soft and supple. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

  • One of the most comfortable boots I've ever owned.
Style: 2976 Chelsea Boot Color: Chestnut Brown Waxed Full Grain Leather Size: 9
I've been wearing Docs since they were all made in England and Nirvana was a new band... Yes, the quality of Dr Martens has gotten... varied. Some products have been poorly constructed, some used inferior materials; but some products are actually about the same quality as before they restructured the company and moved all of the production overseas. All that being said, these are a great casual boot. The leather is probably 0.5-1.0mm thinner than vintage boots but that's still thicker than some of the offerings out there. The waxed finish on the leather is doing some awesome things to the creasing and marring. As soon as you put these on... you will really that you are TRYING to put them on. They are stiff out of the box. An their shape and construction don't lend themselves to getting your foot in. It's a narrow ankle on them but the elastic portion of the shaft is incredibly durable. You can wrench the boot open and slip your foot in. You will immediately notice that the waxed finish gives this a pull-up look on the leather. These brown ones get some gorgeous streaks of orange from underneath the grain. My picture doesn't do it justice. The cut and style is the same as it has been since the 90s or 00s, whenever the Chelsea was first introduced. They look amazing with dark or light jeans and with casual slacks that aren't khaki in color (personal preference). Wearing these around the house and out in town gets them broken in in a matter of days. As such, they are much easier to put on and take off than when you get them. I would suggest using DM's cleaning solutions and creams for these. The waxed leather behaves differently than a regular smooth grain 1460. These have become my go-to "shoe by the door" and I have often found myself wearing them all day. The AirWear Bouncing Sole design has really maintained its quality. ... show more

  • Grip restaurant floors
Style: 2976 Chelsea Boot Color: Gaucho Crazy Horse Size: 9-9.5
I don't know why, but it seems like if you want a pair of slip resistant shoes/boots that grip the floor in a restaurant, they automatically have to be ugly. I don't know why they can't make the same good looking boot with a slip resistant sole. But finally, I've found a pair that looks pretty decent. It's not the best looking boot, but it's the best looking slip resistant boot that I've found. I'm happy with them ... show more

  • Solid boots!
Style: Rometty Sanguine Color: Black Felix Rub Off21456001 Size: 9
These are real Docs, so the quality is predictably good. Solid construction, supple leather that wasn’t marred at all, honestly pretty comfy. I stood in them for 4+hrs at two shows and my feet were a bit sore but really not bad. Easy to walk in. As you could imagine, it a very heavy, chunky boot. People are saying these are hard to get on but part of that is the weight. Thinner socks are better with these and you do have to really shove your foot in. I saw people saying these are too tight on the ankle and I can see that. The leather here is quite stiff and I don’t know that these would be comfortable on someone with larger ankles. In the rest of the foot, they fit a bit big—I’m usually a 10 and a 9 in these is still a little big. I feel like you’d want these boots to fit a little on the snug side because they are clunky and a tighter fit would feel more secure with the weight. The elastic gusset is thick and durable like they’re non-platform chelsea boots. I used a leather balm and now I wear them in the rain and light snow. I love the chunkiness and weight of Docs, they always feel so solid and they have consistently lasted me years. I like that the look of Docs isn’t as dainty as Thursday Boots or Blundstones. ... show more

  • Fits true size
Style: Rometty Sanguine Color: Black Felix Rub Off21456001 Size: 7
Fits true size 7. Glad I got my true size since I have to work to pull my foot through. Plenty of room in toes and ankle feels secure. I feel so tall and cool in them. Love it.

Style: Rometty Sanguine Color: Black Felix Rub Off21456001 Size: 11
I love these but I haven't had them long and the elastic is already getting scrungly.

  • Can’t Go Wrong With Dr Martens
Style: Chelsea Boot Color: Black Wyoming Size: 11 Women/10 Men
Never met a pair of Dr Martens I didn’t love. These are my first Chelsea boot so I invested in a shoe horn for fear of ripping the back loop getting them on. Other than that, perfect.

  • Not very comfy but cool
Style: Rometty Sanguine Color: Black Felix Rub Off21456001 Size: 6
I am usually a size 7 in other brands and I purchased a size 6. The size 6 was still a little big on me. The opening of the boot at the top digs into the skin while walking unless I am wearing tall socks. But I still think they are so cool looking.

  • So comfortable
Style: Chelsea Boot Color: Black Wyoming Size: 7 Women/6 Men
I wish I had purchased these boots earlier. Super comfortable. I wear them for over 12 hours a day and my feet never get tired. I am a US 7.5 shoe size so I bought men’s 6/ women’s 7. The fit is great.
