I'm a size US 7 in practically everything with fairly narrow feet. After hearing conflicting information about fit, I ordered both a size 6 and 7 just to be safe. In the size 6, my feet fit perfectly, but my toes touched the front wall, and the rear lip dug into my achilles. In the size 7, I could fit an entire index finger behind my heels. I opted for the size 6 pair, despite being uncomfortable at first and despite hearing patent leather would be much stiffer and less likely to stretch out. Why? Because I hate thick socks and never wear them, that's why. I refuse to change my lifestyle to my shoe, and I was determined to break the stubborn spirit of these shoes and force them to conform to me. I decided to go the hairdryer route, because it's proven successful for me in the past. I blasted the shoes with warm air, inside and out, for about a minute. I then put on three pairs of winter socks and jammed my feet in and hobbled around my house for an hour. Did it work? YES, IT DID. Width-wise, they had much more give. Length-wise, not a huge difference. Still, I’m so glad I stayed with the 6. I’d read all kinds of reviews about how it took months for people to break these puppies in, but I've had them for a week and I've already walked a few miles in them. Unfortunately, I do still need to place sheer bandaids on my heels and thin socks over that, but it's been a week! I'm pretty positive they'll be custom-shaped to my feet in no time. I feel stupid for not having bought these sooner. Aesthetically, they are unmatched if you want the look of a classic, edgy brogue. The welt-stitching is immediately recognizable, and the patent is shiny and doesn't crease very easily. They make the lamest outfit look so badass and I am obsessed with them. TL;DR: If you have narrow feet like me, I'd go down a full size. If you have wider feet, I'd still size down and consider the fact that the leather loosens a bit and you can also lace less tightly. If you wear thick socks year-round, you're weird but anyway stick with your true size. If you're neurotic about it no matter what you read, just order two sizes and return one.

I’ve been wearing this style for 32 years and am always happy with the look, quality and the years of wear they provide. BUT I think it is extremely unfortunate Doc Martens are no longer made in the UK, and are manufactured in an Asian country like so many other products these days. They say it keeps production costs down. Well if that’s the case, you should pass that savings on to the customer instead of continuing to charge premium prices. Just saying

The media could not be loaded. Shiny shoes! I usually wear an 8.5, got these in an 8 and they fit well in length but very tight over the top of the foot. Hoping they will break in well like everyone says.

The shoes are gorgeous, as described by the seller. Unfortunately, I had to return them because the sizing didn’t work. I usually wear a US size 8 1/2, but neither the 8 nor the 9 fits properly—likely because my feet are too narrow. They might work better for someone with average-width feet.
