Description

The Leona is packed with rugged features: a commando tread, an extra- empowering platform sole with a chunky heel, antiqued brass tunnel eyelets and a sleek silhouette. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

  • Classic boot with a nice chunky heel
Size: 7 Color: Black
Love these boots. They basically can go with anything. Dress them up or down. They definitely give you some height, so that is nice if you like the added few inches. They do have some weight to them, but not a big deal if you are already used to wearing boots or clunkier shoes. I'm not sure why many are hating on the shoe strings, I haven't had any issues so far, they are thin, but haven't had any breakage. Pretty comfortable out of the box, but with leather shoes, there is always a break in period. They do run a bit large. I am usually a 7.5 and the 7s fit me perfectly. ... show more

  • LOVE THESE BOOTS
Size: 8 Color: Black
These were my first pair of Dr Martens since the 90s/early 2000s and I absolutely LOVE the quality and style. I actually bought these and the black Nappa boots to compare. The Leona were the obvious choice by a long shot! I ended up returning the Nappa bc I was happier with the Leona. I got inspired by the hit Netflix show Ginny&Georgia where they have Ginny wearing the Leona boots. It’s no surprise she was wearing them, they’re super cute and stylish! To anybody on the fence, I say go for it! You won’t regret it. Now I’m just waiting for the fall weather to kick in so I can show them off! ... show more

  • So cute! But, size down!
Size: 8 Color: Black
These are sooooo cute, and I get compliments on them all the time. I wear a US women's size 8, and that is what I ordered. They were too big, and I almost sent them back. They only have whole sizes, and I didn't know if the 7 would be too small. So, I added comfort insoles with arch support (these boots don't have any) and that took care of the sizing problem, and now they are sooooooo comfortable. They are a little stiff, but this is to be expected of most leather shoes. With time, I am sure they will get less stiff like leather boots usually do. ... show more

  • Great quality and sturdiness
Size: 8 Color: Black
They look like premium shoes, a little bit big for me , I usually wear 7.5 for tennis shoes and some boots, but 8 on sandals and open shoes… I went for 8 since I didn’t want them to be small, but I think I can wear a 7 easily, my feet is lean so it might be part of the reason for going down a size… color and appearance is amazingly cool, a little bit chuncky but still great looking ... show more

  • Very stiff. Run big. Look big.
Size: 8 Color: Black
I’m usually between a 7.5-8, generally closer to 8. I got an 8 and they are too big. They are also super stiff and seem like they will be very difficult to break in. I’m sure if these are going to be a daily wear shoe they’ll be great once they are broken in, but if you have lots of shoes you cycle between, it will take a lot of time and potential discomfort. I’m going to give the 7 a shot, but I’m not terribly optimistic. ... show more

  • Super fast delivery, great quality
Size: 8 Color: Black
Only took about 24 hours for delivery! Love these boots, I've been wearing them almost every day. They're a little stiff at first but wear in nicely.

  • comfy, soft and goes with everything
Size: 9 Color: Saddle Tan
I really didn't want to like these because of the price but I have already gotten so many compliments. I "cant do heels" so its a godsend to find a cute boot which while they are real stompers are also wearable with dresses and skirts. The hardware is really beautiful and I haven't needed to break them in. I am a little nervous about this lighter caramel color in the rain, but they are leather so polish will remedy that. I have very narrow and flat feet and the US 9 fit be very well with regular socks, so if you have wider feet they may need some breaking in. ... show more

  • Sadly Scuffs Easily
Size: 9 Color: Black
They are super cute, but scuff easily and run a bit large. My daughter wears size 9 1/2 women's normally, and we purchased size 9. The toe on the boots scuffed within the first couple of weeks, we are hoping it buffs out.
