Description

Celebrated as the second style by Dr. Martens, the 1461 features 3 eyes, grooved soles, iconic yellow stitching and original leather. This low-top shoe stands out in a crowd, amplifying every unique look. Built to last, it’s forged using one of the finest methods of construction: utilizing a Goodyear welt and heat-sealing it to the sole. The 1461 is made with highly durable leather and sits on an AirWair sole, which is oil and fat resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance. Use Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam to protect the leather and keep your boots clean, soft and supple. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

  • Get ready to get complimented
I picked these shoes out for myself and sent the link to my husband so he could buy them for me for Mother’s Day. Great choice. I LOVE the color and have gotten so many compliments on them. They’re so much fun and a perfect pop of color - especially on a gray, rainy day. They do run a bit big

  • 90s girl approved!
Size: 6 Women/5 Men Color: Brown
I wore docs in high school in the late 90s and am so glad to rock the look again today. These are perfect! If you’re not familiar with the brand, the shoes are heavy and the more you wear them the more comfortable they get. I wore mine the second day I got them on my 12 hour (6 mile walking) shift at work. So, they’re comfortable enough to wear even from the beginning. I’m normally a size 7.5-8 in US women’s and I bought these in women’s size 6 and they fit perfectly- wiggle room and all. I love these shoes so much!!! If you’re wondering about the difference in the look of these shoes and the 1461 Bex smooth, on my second picture, these are on the left and the Bex smooth are on the right. ... show more

  • Love these shoes!
I have been dreaming of owning a pair of Dr. Martens Oxfords for several years and I finally ordered a pair. I am reliably a Women's 9.5 US and I really wanted this color so I ordered them in 7 UK (8 US Mens). I have a narrow foot but I was pleasantly surprised at how well they fit. I knew that they were going to be a bit big lengthwise so I popped in a pair of insoles and they fit like a dream. I've been wearing them for about a week and they haven't left me with any blisters or foot pain. *yay* They look awesome with everything and seem pretty tough. I went for a three mile walk on an unpaved trail and they still look as good as they did in the box. Love em'. ... show more

  • Need to break in but good
Size: 14 Color: Gaucho
These are great, well made, good leather, etc but DEFINITELY need to be broken in around heel and around ankle (like most shoes like this). I’d buy again for sure but do some preemptive bandaids on heel.

  • They lasted 3 years and IM just now buying another pair.
Size: 14 Color: Gaucho
I cant believe how comfortable these are. I didn't buy black but when they became scuffed up beyond normal repair I polished them Black with shoe polish. After 5 times polishing them they look better than my Military issue shoes. I wore them another 1.5 yrs black.

  • Bad Sizing
Size: 14 Color: Gaucho
I ordered a woman's 14 and received a men's 14. The shoe was listed as a Woman's oxford.... I sent back and re-orderd another size. I have no clue if I will get a woman's or men's sizing. All they supply is a number, not men's or woman's sizing. However, trying on the too big size, I did notice the shoe is VERY stiff. Not real leather as you would expect, seems everyone is afraid of real leather and using synthetics. What a shame. I hope that once I get the proper size that these will work for me. ... show more
